Wildcats split AE matches on Sunday

UNH opened the day with a 3-1 loss to UMBC and finished with a sweep of Binghamton
NEWARK, N.J. -- The University of New Hampshire volleyball teams split a pair of America East matches on Sunday afternoon at Fleisher Athletic Center on the campus of NJIT.
With the split, the Wildcats move to 3-3 overall, while Binghamton falls to 0-7 overall and UMBC is now 7-2 after two victories on the day.
In the late match, UNH swept Binghamton, 3-0. The set scores were 25-16, 25-11 and 25-15.
"Against Binghamton, I thought the team did a nice job recovering and took care of business," UNH Head Coach Christopher Feliciano. "The bench did a tremendous job of maintaining the competitive standard needed to be successful."
UNH hit .376 in the win vs. the Bearcats with a team best .433 hitting percentage in the final frame with 14 kills. The 'Cats hit over .300 in each of the three sets in their third win of the season.
Sophomore right side Hannah Crist (Cicero, Ind.) led the Wildcats offensively with seven kills with a .778 hitting percentage. Junior outside hitter Kate Bilyeu (Omaha, Neb.) added six kills, a .500 hitting percentage and five digs, while freshman middle blocker Gabby Smith (Carmel, Ind.) also tallied six kills at a .600 clip. Freshman libero Mia Pagliarini (Springboro, Ohio) added another 18 digs for the second straight match for the Wildcats. Freshman outside hitter Hannah Serbousek (Fort Collins, Colo.) recorded five kills, four aces and three digs in the victory for UNH.
In the opening match of the day the Wildcats dropped a 3-1 match to UMBC. The set scores were 25-18, 18-25, 26-28 and 19-25.
"In the first match we struggled to maintain moment after a brilliant first set," stated Feliciano. "I felt we got away from our offensive game plan as the match progressed."
Serbousek totaled a team-high 13 kills with a .290 hitting percentage. Freshman middle blocker Kelly Kaufmann (Raleigh, N.C.) added a career-high 11 kills to go along with a .391 hitting percentage. Bilyeu chipped in with 10 kills and 13 digs in the losing effort.
Pagliarini notched a match-high 18 digs in a strong defensive effort for the Wildcats.
The 'Cats totaled 16 kills (.224 hit%) in the opening frame and registered 14 kills and a .257 hitting percentage in the fourth stanza.
Anouk Van Noord led the way for the Retrievers with a match-high 17 kills in the victory for UMBC.
UNH returns to action for its home opener on Saturday, March 27 against NJIT. Match time from Lundholm Gymnasium is 2 p.m. on AmericaEast.tv
