Wildcats Swept 3-0 by #14 Texas A&M

UNH beaten by host Aggies; set sights on Southeastern Louisiana on Saturday at 1 p.m. ET
BRYAN-COLLEGE STATION, Texas — The UNH volleyball team fell to No. 14 Texas A&M in straight sets Friday night at Reed Arena as part of the Texas A&M Invitational. The set scores were 25-17, 25-14, 25-18.
Senior Meredith Hohnbaum (Indianapolis, Ind.) led UNH (6-6) with nine kills and a block assist, while freshman Lucy Chertock (Danville, Calif.) added eight kills and five digs. Junior Rachel Grier (Dublin, Calif.) contributed five kills and a block assist, and senior Avery LePore (Franklin, Tenn.) spearheaded the defense with a team-high 16 digs. Junior Jessica Shattles (Ponte Vedra Beach, Fla.) dished out 11 assists and added nine digs.
The Aggies (7-2) were led by Ifenna Cos-Okpalla, who hit .688 with 12 kills and four blocks. Emily Hellmuth added 13 kills and hit .364, while Logan Lednicky chipped in eight kills and 15 digs. Setter Maddie Waak paced the offense with 37 assists and six digs.
Set 1:
•New Hampshire opened strong, taking an early 2-0 lead behind a pair of Texas A&M attack errors. Grier and Hohnbaum each recorded kills to keep the Wildcats within striking distance.
•A service ace from freshman Jannelize Perez (Orlando, Fla.) brought UNH within one at 12-11, but the Aggies closed the set on a 13-6 run.
Set 2:
•The second set saw Texas A&M jump out to a 5-0 lead, fueled by kills from Cos-Okpalla and Kyndal Stowers.
•UNH responded with a kill from Hohnbaum and a service ace from junior Miray Su Keskin (Ankara, Turkey), but the Wildcats struggled to find rhythm offensively, hitting just .048 in the frame.
•Chertock added a late kill, but the Aggies pulled away for a 25-14 win.
Set 3:
•The Wildcats put together their strongest offensive set in the third, hitting .190 and tallying 14 kills.
•Chertock and Hohnbaum led the charge with multiple kills, while Grier and senior Millie Grove (Warrington, Pa.) added points at the net.
•UNH closed the gap to 20-18 after a kill from Chertock, but Texas A&M responded with a 5-0 run to close out the match.
