Volleyball Fights Past NJIT 3-1

Jessica Shattles posted her fifth-straight double-double in the win
DURHAM, N.H. — The University of New Hampshire volleyball team fought past NJIT 3-1 on Sunday (Oct. 26) afternoon at Lundholm Gymnasium. The set scores were 22-25, 25-17, 25-13, and 25-15.
Five different players recorded 5+ kills in the win, paced by a 14 kill, five dig outing for junior Rachel Grier (Dublin, Calif.) and a 13-kill performance from freshman Lucy Chertock (Danville, Calif.). Additionally, junior Jessica Shattles (Ponte Vedra Beach, Fla.) contributed a team-high 26 assists alongside 10 digs for her fifth-straight double-double and ninth of the season while sophomore Ellery Singleton (Menlo Park, Calif.) posted 16 assists and a pair of service aces. Defensively, freshman Dylan Hunt (Pickerington, Ohio) recorded 11 digs, while senior Avery LePore (Franklin, Tenn.) logged 10 digs, tied for second most on the team.
"Today's win was huge in our push to make the playoffs," shared head coach Christopher Feliciano, "Coming off of our game Friday, we knew the path wouldn't be easy, but we have to be in tune and find a way overcome it."
Set 1
The visiting Highlanders came out quick in the opening set, jumping out to a 7-4 lead off a pair of kills from Ema Torres. The Wildcats pulled back, going on an 18-15 run to deadlock the first set at 22-22, before the Highlanders scored three unanswered points to take the set 25-22. Martina Gonzalo Cortes paced the Highlanders with seven kills while both Hohnbaum and Grier led the offense for the Wildcats in the opening frame, with each player recording five kills apiece alongside an eight-assist set for Shattles.
Set 2
UNH opened the second set with an 10-8 edge over the Highlanders, fueled by a pair of kills from Grier and a service ace and one kill contribution from Chertock. The 'Cats would go on to lead the rest of the way, closing out on a 15-9 run to take the second set 25-17. New Hampshire found contributions across the roster in their late run, with three different players recording a pair of kills, led by three kills from Kriendler.
Set 3
The Wildcats continued their dominant showing on offense, opening the third set on another 10-8 run, this time powered by Grier with a pair of blocks and a kill and Kriendler with a pair of block assists and a kill. The Wildcats closed the set by outscoring the Highlanders 15-5, taking the 2-1 match lead into the fourth. Chertock led UNH offensively in the third set, registering four kills and an assist while Shattles posted six assists.
Set 4
New Hampshire applied the pressure on NJIT further as the fourth set opened, with the Wildcats jumping ahead to a fast 16-7 lead over the Highlanders. Chertock and Grier guided UNH in the early going, posting three kills apiece, before the 'Cats closed out on a 10-9 run to take the set 25-15 and to win the match 3-1. Six different Wildcats posted a kill in the final set, led by a five-kill showing from Chertock, while LePore and Hunt led defensively, each notching three digs in the final frame.
For the Highlanders (4-18, 0-6 AE), Gonzalo Cortes led the way offensively, logging 15 kills while Cece Marino and Finley McAndrew tabbed 16 assists each and Doga Emil closed with nine digs.
