Lucy Chertock Named America East Rookie of the Year

Four Wildcats earned conference awards
BOSTON — University of New Hampshire freshman outside hitter Lucy Chertock (Danville, Calif.) was named America East Rookie of the Year on Wednesday, Nov. 19, highlighting seven different end of year awards from the league. With the nomination, Chertock becomes the third Wildcat to win top rookie honors, joining Kara Oxenknecht (2022) and Alyson Coler (2000).
Additionally, Chertock is joined by both senior Meredith Hohnbaum (Indianapolis, Ind.) and junior Rachel Grier (Dublin, Calif.) on the America East All-Conference Second Team and fellow freshman Dylan Hunt (Pickerington, Ohio) on the America East All-Rookie Team. Hohnbaum was also named to the America East All-Academic Team for the second-straight year, while Grier joins her for her first appearance.
Chertock closed her rookie season with 274 kills across 85 sets (3.22 kills/set) while also producing a team-high 309.5 points (3.64 points/set), with both values ranking most on the Wildcats' roster and fifth-most across America East. Defensively, Chertock managed 175 digs (2.06 digs/set), ranking third-most on New Hampshire's roster this season. Additionally, Chertock finished the year with seven double-doubles, closing out on a three-game double-double streak.
Grier finished out her junior year with 212 kills across 88 sets (2.41 kills/set), good for second-most on the team. Additionally on offense, Grier landed 18 service aces, a .396 hitting percentage on 37 errors, ranking second-best across the conference this year, and 289.5 points (3.29 points/set), sixth-most across the league. Defensively, Grier paced the Wildcats in blocks, posting 102.0 total on 17 solo blocks and 85 block assists (1.16 blocks/set), tied for second-most across America East.
Hohnbaum closed out her career with 169 kills through 84 sets (2.01 kills/set) and 196.5 points (2.34 points/set), both ranking third-most on the Wildcats' roster this season. On defense, Hohnbaum contributed 32 digs alongside 51.0 blocks on four solos and 47 assists, finishing second-most behind Grier.
Hunt concluded her rookie season having played 81 of a possible 88 sets, second-most behind Chertock on the team for freshmen. On offense, Hunt contributed 39 kills (0.48 kills/set), seven assists, and 22 service aces, ranking third-most for New Hampshire, totaling 64.0 points (0.79 points/set). Defensively, Hunt earned 133 digs (1.64 digs/set), fourth-most on the team, to accompany six block assists.
