Hohnbaum's 14 Kills Paces UNH's Loss to Bryant

The Wildcats fall to 1-1 in America East play
DURHAM, N.H. — The University of New Hampshire volleyball team battled to a three-set loss to Bryant University on Wednesday evening at Lundholm Gymnasium. The set scores were 25-14, 25-23, and 25-22.
Senior Meredith Hohnbaum (Indianapolis, Ind.) paced the Wildcats' offensive efforts, posting a team-high 14 kills on .407 hitting while junior Jessica Shattles (Ponte Vedra Beach, Fla.) dished out 18 assists and senior Avery LePore (Franklin, Tenn.) notched 14 digs.
"We had leads in the second and third set, and to Bryant's credit they pushed the envelope and forced us to play and we couldn't match their intensity," said head coach Christopher Feliciano, "We are a much better team than the result showed tonight."
With the loss, the Wildcats drop to 7-8, including a 1-1 showing in America East action.
Set 1
Bryant got going early, opening the match on a 6-0 run, before trading scores with the Wildcats, pulling the set to a 9-7 edge for the Bulldogs. Bryant went back on the offensive, logging a 10-0 run en route to a 25-14 set win.
Set 2
The Wildcats came out strong in the second set, as Hohnbaum's nine-kill middle frame powered UNH to a 22-22 set tie with Bryant, before the Bulldogs closed out with a 25-23 edge.
Set 3
UNH opened the third set on a 10-4 run, highlighted by four kills and a pair of blocks from Hohnbaum and four assists from Shattles. The Bulldogs clawed back, going on a 19-6 run to regain the set lead, powered by a pair of kills and a block from Bryant's Arianna Ugolini. UNH fought back, going on a 7-1 run to make it a 24-22 contest, but fell short, losing the final set 25-23.
Ugolini led Bryant (10-8, 2-0 America East) with 15 kills and five digs, while Madison Koeller notched 32 assists and Carinna Barron logged three aces and 17 digs.
