Volleyball Falls to UAlbany 3-0 in Straight Sets

ALBANY, N.Y. — The University of New Hampshire volleyball team fell to UAlbany 3-0 in straight sets on Friday (Oct. 24) evening at PE Gym in Albany, N.Y. The set scores were 22-25, 21-25, and 21-25.
Five different players recorded 5+ kills in the loss, paced by a ten-kill output from junior Rachel Grier (Dublin, Calif.) and a seven kill, two service ace evening from freshman Lucy Chertock (Danville, Calif.). Defensively, junior Jessica Shattles (Ponte Vedra Beach, Fla.) finished with 20 assists and 12 digs, registering her fourth-straight double-double and eighth of the season. Additionally, senior Avery LePore (Franklin, Tenn.) finished with 11 digs and Dylan Hunt (Pickerington, Ohio) ended her evening with nine.
Set 1
New Hampshire opened the match on a 16-14 run, powered by a pair of kills and back-to-back service aces from Chertock to give the Wildcats the early edge. Five different Great Danes earned a kill in the closing plays of the opening set, led by a pair of kills from Shynelle Woroniuk, to win the set 25-22.
Set 2
The Wildcats and Great Danes traded points through the second set, culminating in a 22-21 edge for UAlbany. Grier and Shattles powered the Wildcats in the middle set, with six kills and five assists, respectively, but a 3-0 run from UAlbany closed out the second set, giving the Great Danes the 25-21 set win and 2-0 match advantage.
Set 3
UAlbany and UNH continued to trade blows in the third set, leading to a 15-15 deadlock powered by a trio of kills from Grier and a pair of kills from both Evelyn Brenton (Glastonbury, Conn.) and Millie Grove (Warrington, Pa.). Following a pair of kills from Woroniuk and six assists from Maria Olga Siapani, the Great Danes took the final set 25-21 and the match 3-0.
Woroniuk paced UAlbany's (11-9, 4-2 AE) offensive output with 12 kills and six digs while Siapani closed her night with 37 assists and 11 digs.

• In partnership with the Basic Needs Support program, UNH Athletics is seeking winter clothing donations from fans during Family Weekend. Volunteers will be collecting gently used (in good condition) or new coats as well as new hats, gloves or scarves in the Field House lobby during Sunday's UNH/NJIT match.
