UNH Wins Battle of 'Cats vs. Binghamton, 3-0

DURHAM, N.H. – Kennedi Smith (The Woodlands, Texas) recorded match highs in both kills (12) and points (13.5) to lead the University of New Hampshire volleyball team to Friday night's 3-0 victory against Binghamton University at Lundholm Gym.
The set scores were 25-23, 25-21, 25-11.
UNH won its second consecutive match to improve to 12-5 overall and 2-1 in America East. Binghamton is 0-16, 0-3.
There were 471 fans in attendance to support the Wildcats and their battle against breast cancer by supporting the Side-Out Foundation's Dig Pink fund raising initiative. You can still make an online donation by CLICKING HERE.

STAT LEADERS
•Kennedi Smith tallied 12 kills on a .407 hitting percentage. She also had a service ace and one block.
•Hannah Petke (Rancho Santa Margarita, Calif.) recorded nine kills on a .438 hitting percentage. She also had five assisted blocks for a total of 11.5 points.
•Abby Sullivan (Methuen, Mass.) also had five assisted blocks, as well as six kills, for 8.5 points.
•Emma Patlovich (Lake Forest, Ill.) and Wren Macaulay (Lake Orion, Mich.) finished with 14 and 12 assists, respectively, to orchestrate a .322 team hitting percentage.
•Emily Tanski (Plymouth, Mich.) recorded a match-high 14 digs, including seven in the first set.
UNH NOTEBOOK
•New Hampshire has a 23-16 lifetime record against Binghamton and has won three consecutive matchups vs. the Bearcats.
•Tanski climbed to No. 3 on the program's all-time digs list with 1,345. She surpassed Alyse Lahti (1,334), and next on the list is No. 2 Jen Williams at 1,398.
•Smith, who became the 17th UNH player to record 1,000 career points on Sept. 6, increased her total to 1,141.5. Kim Mirts-Poen ranks 10th at 1,179.
•Five on UNH's wins have been in straight sets.
•The Wildcats have taken a 1-0 lead in 12 of 17 matches.
SET 1
•There were three ties and one lead change in the first set.
•After Binghamton won the first point of the match, UNH reeled off five consecutive points to take a 5-1 lead.
•The Bearcats responded with a 3-0 run to pull within one point.
•Trailing 19-16, the visitors won three consecutive points to level the score.
•With the score tied at 20, back-to-back kills by Macaulay and Sullivan were followed by a combined block by Sullivan and Petke to give the 'Cats a 23-20 advantage.
•Binghamton closed within one point at 23-22 and 24-23, but a service error ended the set in favor of UNH.
SET 2
•There were eight ties and five lead changes in the second set.
•New Hampshire again built an early lead, 4-1.
•The teams exchanged 4-0 runs – two by Binghamton – to push the score to 9-8 in favor of the Bearcats.
•With UNH trailing 12-11, Sullivan and Petke combined for another block to ignite a 7-1 spurt that gave the 'Cats a commanding 18-13 lead.
•Binghamton inched within two points at 20-18, 21-19 and 22-20, but then the Bearcats committed a ball handling error and another combined block by the aforementioned Wildcat duo pushed the score to set point, 24-20.
SET 3
•There were no ties or lead changes as UNH won the first four points and rolled out to a 9-2 advantage.
•The lead reached double digits at 14-4 and was pushed to 14 points (19-5).
•The Wildcats had match point at 24-6, but the Bearcats prolonged the match with a 5-0 run before Sullivan ended it with a kill.
