Tanski Records Double-Double in 3-1 Loss to Binghamton

DURHAM, N.H. – Emily Tanski (Plymouth, Mich.) recorded a double-double with 11 kills and 15 digs, but the University of New Hampshire volleyball team was defeated 3-1 by Binghamton University in Friday night's America East conference match at Lundholm Gym.
The set scores were 25-20, 25-22, 22-25, 25-17.
Kennedi Smith (The Woodlands, Texas) finished with a team-high 12 kills and also had three blocks. Hannah Petke (Ranco Santa Margarita, Calif.) tallied 11 kills and two blocks. Gabri Olhava (Mount Prospect, Ill.) recorded six blocks, as well as seven kills on a .278 hitting percentage.
UNH is now 10-12 overall and 5-3 in America East. Binghamton, which also won 3-1 at home Oct. 1, improves to 7-14, 4-4.
The Bearcats were led by Erin Shultz's 19 kills on a .356 hitting percentage. Gabby Alicea tallied 16 kills with a .277 percentage; she also had eight digs, two blocks and two service aces. Sarah Ngo recorded a double-double with 45 assists and 17 digs.

SET 1
- There were nine tie scores and three lead changes as Binghamton came out firing with a .379 hitting percentage in the opening set.
- UNH took an early 4-1 lead and also held a three-point advantage of 13-10.
- The Wildcats led 16-15 before Binghamton surged in front, 18-16, on consecutive kills by Alicea and Lexi LaGoy.
- The Bearcats inched ahead, 21-18, and then kills by Shultz and Kristella Morina gave the visitors a 23-19 advantage.
- Binghamton closed out the set with a Shultz kill and UNH attack error.
SET 2
- It was another close set, but with only two tie scores and one lead change.
- The Bearcats opened the set with a 3-1 run, but New Hampshire forged a 5-5 tie.
- Binghamton reeled off five consecutive points to build a 10-5 lead, then increased the margin to seven points, 14-7.
- UNH trailed 17-10 before a kill by Bowman and Welti service ace sparked a 4-0 spurt that trimmed the deficit to 17-14.
- The Bearcats answered with three straight points and the Wildcats responded with a 4-1 run to advance the score to 21-18 in favor of the visiting 'Cats.
- New Hampshire closed the gap to two points, 22-20, on a combined block by Olhava and Petke.
- UNH fended off one set point but a kill by Shultz ended the set at 25-22 and gave Binghamton a 2-0 lead in the match.
SET 3
- There were six ties and four lead changes, all in the first 15 points of the set.
- Trailing 8-7, a Petke kill and back-to-back Tanski kills ignited a 6-0 run that gave UNH a 13-8 lead it would not relinquish. Petke had another kill and a block during the run.
- Binghamton closed within 13-11, but the Wildcats responded with a four consecutive points to extend the advantage to 17-11.
- The margin was as much as eight points, 21-13, before the Bearcats chipped away and trimmed the deficit to 22-20.
- Consecutive kills by Olhava and Bowman quelled the rally, but Binghamton did negate two set points before another Bowman kill ended the set.
SET 4
- There were two ties and one lead change as the Wildcats were held to a .093 hitting percentage.
- UNH won the opening three points and held a 4-1 lead until the visitors leveled the score at 4.
- The Wildcats won the next two points, but Binghamton answered with a 4-0 run to take an 8-6 lead it would not relinquish.
- UNH won the next point to pull within one, but the Bearcats won six of the next seven points to surge ahead 14-8.
- New Hampshire kept within striking distance but, with the score 18-14, a pair of Alicea kills sandwiched Samantha Gioiosa's service ace to extend the margin to 21-14.
- Alicea's ace pushed the score to set point and, after a Bearcats' error, a kill by Shultz ended the set and match.
UNH NOTEBOOK
- Tanksi recorded her first double-double of the season. She had 11 last year as a freshman.
- The match was featured as an America East Spread Respect event.
- The goal of Spread Respect is to create an inclusive, respectful arena for all student-athletes, coaches and fans regardless of sexual orientation, gender identity, race or religion.
