Volleyball Hosts UAlbany (Nov. 1; 1 p.m.) on Senior Day

DURHAM, N.H. -- The University of New Hampshire volleyball team welcomes the University at Albany (Nov. 1; 1 p.m.) for Senior Day at Lundholm Gym.
SENIOR SALUTE: The UNH volleyball team will honor seniors Abby Brinkman (Brecksville, Ohio), Brenna Buckwalter (Evergreen, Colo.), Cassidy Croci (Sylvania, Ohio), Maggie Kenney (Merrimack, N.H.), Madison Lightfoot (Clarkston, Mich.) and Tori Forrest (Powder Springs, Ga.) on Sunday afternoon prior to the match against UAlbany for their commitment and contributions to the program during their time as a Wildcat. The group has been instrumental in propelling New Hampshire to back-to-back America East Championships in 2013 and 2014.
MAGAZINE DRIVE:The Wildcat volleyball team is collecting new and slightly used magazines to donate to Wentworth Douglass Hospital at all home matches for the remainder of the 2015 season. The magazines will be placed in treatment and waiting rooms where they can be used by patients and their loved ones.
STATE OF NEW HAMPSHIRE: UNH enters the weekend with an overall record of 15-7 and 7-0 in conference play. The Wildcats have won nine straight matches dropping only three sets in that span.In their last outing, the Wildcats downed the University of Hartford in straight sets Saturday, Oct. 24 (25-16, 25-22, 25-21).
Forrest, the reigning America East Player of the Week, recorded her team-leading 10th double-double on the season with 13 kills and 10 digs.
Forrest lands a team-high 3.00 kills per set and ranks second on the squad in with 2.90 digs per set. Junior middle blocker Demi Muses (Orangevale, Calif.) bolsters the attack by tallying 2.95 kills per set while chalking up a team-high 52 blocks. Junior setter Keelin Severtson (Delray Beach, Fla.) has piloted the New Hampshire offense with a conference-best 9.15 assists per set and leads the America East with 40 service aces. Lightfoot anchors the passing and back-row defense with 4.25 digs per set.
UNH records 11.39 kills per set and is holding its opponents to a league-best .168 attack percentage. New Hampshire also leads the conference and ranks ninth in the nation in service aces with 1.73 per set.
SCOUTING BINGHAMTON: Binghamton enters the contest with an overall record of 5-17 and 2-5 in America East play. The Bearcats have lost five of their last six matchups, only defeating the University of Massachusetts Lowell in a five-set thriller (Oct. 16; 23-25, 25-16, 24-26, 25-20, 15-13).In their last outing Oct. 23, the Bearcats succumbed to UAlbany on the road in three sets (12-25, 14-25, 17-25).
Freshman outside hitter Gabby Alicea leads Binghamton with 2.26 kills per set and hammers a team-high 20 service aces.Sophomore middle hitter Kristella Morila paces the team in blocks per set (0.89) and is fifth in kills per set (1.68).Senior right side hitter Megan Burgess bolsters the offense with 2.20 kills per set. Sophomore setter Sarah Ngo orchestrates the offense by dishing out 8.65 assists per set. Junior libero Bailey Walker patrols the backline, scooping up 4.86 digs per set. Glenn Kiriyama enters his 17th season at the helm of the Binghamton volleyball program.
SCOUTING UALBANY: The Great Danes carry an overall record of 11-8 and 6-1 in conference play.UAlbany has won six of its last seven contests, only falling to UNH on Oct. 2. Last weekend, the Great Danes trounced the Bearcats in three sets at University Gymnasium.
Junior outside hitter Laini Leindecker leads the team with 3.47 kills per set and is second in digs with 3.16 per set.Classmate Shannon Hurley ranks second on the squad with 3.09 kills per set. Junior setter Mikala McCauley is the team's primary setter, averaging 8.97 per set.Junior middle blocker Amanda Dolan paces the conference in blocks with 90. Anchoring the backline is freshman libero Nicole Otero, who paces the Great Danes with 4.49 digs per set. MJ Engstrom enters her eighth season as the coach of the Great Danes.
ALL-TIME SERIES VS. BINGHAMTON: The Wildcats lead the career series against Binghamton with a 16-10 record. New Hampshire prevailed in a straight-set triumph (25-18, 25-23, 25-22) at the Oct. 4 meeting in Vestal. The Wildcats have tallied five straight wins against the Bearcats, dating back to Oct. 18, 2013.
ALL-TIME SERIES VS. UALBANY: The Wildcats trail the Great Danes in the career series, 17-18. UNH toppled UAlbany at University Gymnasium on Oct. 2 in straight sets (25-22, 25-20, 25-21). New Hampshire has won the last three meetings between the two schools.
EIGHTEEN: New Hampshire has won 18 straight America East contests dating back to Oct. 12, 2014 when UNH swept UMBC (25-19, 25-8, 25-20). In that span, the Wildcats have only dropped seven sets against conference members. New Hampshire posted 25-straight wins against league members between the 1998 and 1999 seasons.
AMERICA EAST DOMINANCE: Through seven matches of league play, the Wildcats have prevailed in all seven contests. UNH has swept six America East members and has yet to face a fifth set in its conference schedule. New Hampshire leads the America East in hitting percentage (.240), opponent hitting percentage (.067), assists per set (12.14), kills per set (12.68) and service aces (52). Severtson leads all players in assists per set (11.27) and aces per set (0.73) in America East frays. Lightfoot boasts a 4.64 digs per set average, good for third in the conference. In kills per set, the Wildcats are the only team in America East with three players who rank top-10 -- Forrest (3.30, third), Muses (3.22; fourth) and Brinkman (2.95; seventh).
POCKET ROCKETS: Severtson has enjoyed a breakout year from the service line, chalking up a league-best 0.50 aces per set to rank seventh in the nation. On 13 occasions, the junior setter has hammered two or more aces. UNH's 1.75 aces per set is the highest average by the team since the 2007 season and ranks ninth in the nation.
ROLLING DOUBLES: Forrest racked up 10 double-doubles to lead the team in 2014 and has matched that total this season to pace the 'Cats once again. Muses (seven) and Severtson (three) have also tallied double-double performances this season.
CHART TOPPERS: UNH is among the upper echelon of America East in several statistical categories this season. The Wildcats lead the league in opponent hitting percentage (.167) and service aces per set (1.75). Individually, Muses and Forrest are tied for sixth in kills per set with 2.95. Severtson ranks second in the conference in assists per set (9.12) and tied for first in service aces (38). Additionally, Severtson's 0.5 aces per set ranks ninth in the nation. Lightfoot's 4.24 digs per set is good for third in America East.

LIGHTFOOT BECOMES ALL-TIME DIGS LEADER: With the Wildcats' victory over Buffalo on Sept. 20, Lightfoot became the program's all-time digs leader. The senior co-captain surpassed Jen Williams '05 on the career leaderboard, who recorded 1,398 digs in her career. Lightfoot now boasts 1,537 digs and counting in her illustrious career. Lightfoot owns two of the top 10 single-season school records for digs, which includes tying the single-season digs mark of 560 just a year ago.
LEADERBOARD WATCH: Forrest continues to ascend the UNH all-time kills chart, ranking fifth with 1,179. The two-time co-captain became the eighth Wildcat to reach 1,000 kills, reaching the milestone in a four-set win (25-12, 25-18, 13-25, 25-16) against Marshall University on Sept. 4. The senior outside hitter is also closing in on the 1,000-dig plateau. Forrest currently has tallied 983 digs in her prolific career as a Wildcat.
FIVE-TIME CHAMPS: The Wildcats secured the America East title on their home court for the second straight year after defeating the University at Albany in four sets on Nov. 22, 2014 (25-22, 19-25, 27-25, 25-13). UNH has won the conference crown five times; all under the tutelage of head coach Jill Hirschinger. Additionally, all five of the program's titles have been won at Lundholm Gymnasium.
HIRSCHINGER BY THE NUMBERS: In 36 years as a head coach, Hirschinger is one of just 12 active coaches that have recorded 700 wins or more. She recorded win No. 700 on Sept. 20, 2014 against the University of Rhode Island in a five-set battle. Already the program's winningest coach, Hirschinger earned her 300th career victory at UNH when the team captured a four-set triumph over Binghamton University on Nov. 2, 2014.
DUE NEXT: UNH plays its last three regular season matches away from Durham. New Hampshire begins the road swing Friday, Nov. 6 (7 p.m.) at the University of Massachusetts Lowell.
