Before UNH
Chen competed at Leonardtown High School, where she established herself as one of Southern Maryland's top swimmers. A team captain for the Raiders, she earned multiple regional championships and helped lead Leonardtown to conference success throughout her high school career.
As a senior, Chen won the regional championship in the 50 freestyle and earned second- and fourth-place finishes at the MPSSAA 4A/3A State Championships. She helped lead Leonardtown to the SMAC team championship, earned the Outstanding Player Award and served as a team captain.
During her junior season, Chen captured regional titles in both the 50 freestyle and 100 freestyle while earning another Outstanding Player Award. Earlier in her career, she won a regional championship in the 50 freestyle, qualified for USA Swimming Futures and was inducted into the National Honor Society.
Chen competed for Great Mills Aquatic Club under coach Elizabeth DeLoggio.
Academic Honors
Chen graduated in the top 5 percent of her high school class and earned the Seal of Biliteracy in Chinese.
Personal
Born in San Diego, California. Daughter of Tommy and Sarah Chen. Has a younger brother, Alex.
Chen is pursuing a degree in biomedical science with a concentration in medical microbiology and aspires to become an epidemiologist with the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).
Outside the pool, she enjoys volleyball and baking. She has traveled to three of the world's seven continents and was a member of her school's chamber choir.
Her favorite athlete is Olympic champion Katie Ledecky, and she says her mother has been her greatest role model and source of inspiration.

Fun Fact
Chen's younger brother was invited to audition to represent Team USA in tap dancing at an event in Prague.
