Mahon, Mahoney, Wright, Blume lead way in 156-144 loss at Northeastern

UNH sustains first defeat of season at Barletta Natatorium
BOSTON – Junior captain Grace Mahon (Orange, Conn.), senior captain Audrey Mahoney (Downers Grove, Ill.), junior Emily Loren Wright (Ventura, Calif.) and junior Grace Blume (Dedham, Mass.) each posted multiple event victories Saturday, but the UNH women's swimming and diving team sustained its first loss of the season, 156-144, against Northeastern at the Barletta Natatorium.
Mahon raced to wins in the 200-yard butterfly (2 minutes, 5.01 seconds) and 100-yard butterfly (55.59 seconds) while Mahoney touched the wall first in the 50-yard freestyle (23.63) and 100-yard freestyle (52.08). Wright dominated the breaststroke, winning the 100 breast (1:05.56) and 200 breast (2:22.44), and Blume swept the diving events by scoring 265.43 points in the 3-meter and 266.63 in the 1-meter.
The Wildcats (4-1, 1-0 America East) opened strong with a victory in the 200-yard medley relay, as the quartet of freshman Kelsey Mayers (Waxhaw, N.C.), Wright, Mahon, and Mahoney touched first in 1:45.81.
Sophomore Lydia Hart (Cornwall, Ontario) led the distance group with a win in the 200 freestyle (1:56.37) and a runner-up finish in the 500 free (5:10.95). Sophomore Marisa White (Apex, N.C.) added key points with second place in the 1000 free (10:40.90), while senior captain Carolyn Nelson (Glen Ellyn, Ill.) was fourth in both distance races.
Mayers tacked on second-place results in the 200 back (2:07.72) and fourth in the 100 back.
Northeastern's highlights included freshman Abigail Gowern sweeping the distance freestyle with wins in the 1000 (10:34.90) and 500 (5:09.41), and the Huskies (4-1, 0-0 CAA) closed the meet with a decisive victory in the 200 free relay (1:34.59). Sophie Bromley also led a strong backstroke group, taking the 100 back in 58.12.
