Before UNH
Thorne joins the Wildcats following a successful club and high school career in Ontario, Canada. She attended St. Anne's School in Aurora, Ontario, where she helped lead the Cygnets to a CISAA Open Team Championship.
Competing for the Newmarket Stingrays under coach Edit Varga, Thorne established herself as one of Ontario's top age-group swimmers. During her senior season, she competed at the World Aquatics World Cup and earned a bronze medal in the 100-meter butterfly at the Ontario Age Group Championships.
As a junior, Thorne qualified for the Canadian Junior Trials in the 50-meter breaststroke, reached the finals at the Ontario Swimming Championships and the Speedo Canadian Short Course Championships, and earned a medal at the OFSAA Championships.
Earlier in her career, she earned bronze medals in the 200-meter butterfly at both the Winter Ontario Championships and Speedo Eastern Championships. She also qualified for the Canadian Olympic Junior Trials in the 200-meter butterfly and earned additional OFSAA honors. As a freshman, she captured multiple medals at the Ontario Youth Junior Championships, including silver medals in the 100-meter butterfly, 200-meter butterfly and 200-meter freestyle, while also earning bronze in the 400-meter freestyle and qualifying for the Speedo Canadian Championships.
Thorne also held the Newmarket Stingrays' 12-and-under club record in the 50-meter butterfly.
Academic Honors
Thorne excelled in the classroom, ranking among the top students in her class and earning numerous academic distinctions. Her honors include the Helen Ventin Chemistry Award, UNH Trustee Scholarship, UNH International Student Scholarship, and recognition as a finalist for the Science Ambassador Scholarship.
She was consistently recognized as one of her school's top academic students and qualified for provincial-level robotics competitions in both RoboCup and VEX Robotics. She also placed in the top 25 percent on several University of Waterloo mathematics contests, including the Hypatia, Euclid and Fermat competitions.
Personal
Born in Richmond Hill, Ontario, Canada. Daughter of Matthew and Tracey Thorne. Has an older brother, Hayden, who studies law in the United Kingdom.
Thorne is pursuing a degree in chemical engineering with a bioengineering concentration and hopes to use her education to make a positive impact on others. She also hopes to continue swimming throughout her life and one day complete a swim across Lake Ontario.
Athletics run in the family. Her brother plays golf at Queen's University Belfast in Northern Ireland. Her father played hockey at Queen's University in Ontario, while her mother competed in synchronized swimming.
Outside the pool, Thorne enjoys crocheting, painting and reading. She often creates clothing, stuffed animals and handmade gifts through crochet projects.

Thorne is an accomplished bagpipe player and enjoys crocheting in her spare time. One of her favorite projects is creating handmade gifts for friends and family.
