BOSTON -- Sophomore libero Avery LePore (Franklin, Tenn.) of the University of New Hampshire volleyball team was named the America East Defensive Specialist of the Week on Tuesday. She has received this accolade all three weeks of the 2023 season.
LePore was UNH's leader in both digs (65) and digs per set (6.50) to lead the Wildcats to a 2-1 record at the Erie Insurance Invitational at James Madison University and earn All-Tournament Team recognition. She also ranked second with four service aces.
LePore recorded a career-high 32 digs to help limit Cal Poly to a .176 team hitting percentage and UNH to a 3-1 victory on Sept. 8; the 32 digs is the highest single-match total by any America East player this season. She contributed offensively with a pair of aces.
Later that day, LePore tallied a match-high 15 digs in a straight-set victory against VCU; the Rams were held to a .132 hitting percentage.
In the Sept. 9 tourney finale against the home team, JMU, she once again led all players with 18 digs. And, once again, LePore contributed two service aces.
On the national leaderboard, LePore is No. 6 in digs per set (5.71) and 14th in digs (177). She is the America East and team leader in both those stats.
The previous time a player won three consecutive America East Defensive Specialist of the Week awards was in 2018, when UNH's Emily Tanski was honored the last three weeks of the regular season.
New Hampshire (7-3 overall record) travels to the University of Kansas to compete in the Jayhawk Classic on Sept. 15-16 against both Texas State and Kansas on Friday and Bellarmine on Saturday.
The Wildcats' next home match is Jill Hirschinger Day on Saturday, Sept. 23 (6 p.m.) against Dartmouth College.
