All-American Michael Helps 'Cats Climb into 8th at NCAA Ski Championships

Freshman alpine skier becomes third Wildcat All-American with 10th-place finish in women’s slalom
PARK CITY, Utah – UNH freshman alpine skier Zoe Michael (Sydney, Australia) raced to 10th place in women's slalom at Park City Mountain Resort on Friday to become the third Wildcat to earn All-American accolades at the 2022 NCAA Ski Championships, hosted by the University of Utah, and UNH climbed two spots to eighth place overall.
With 165.0 points, UNH is 14.5 points behind seventh-place Middlebury (180.5) and within 19 points of sixth-place Montana State (184). Host Utah leads with 405.0 points, followed in the Top 5 by Vermont (377.5), Denver (372.5), Colorado (368.0) and Westminster (231).

Michael clocked in at a combined 1 minute, 48.57 seconds to edge senior teammate Fanny Sanderberg (Oslo, Norway) by 0.06 seconds for All-American Second Team honors. Michael tallied 21 points and Sanderberg, who rallied from 21st place after her initial run, racked up 20 points (1:48.63, 11th place) to help the Wildcats tie Utah for seventh place in women's SL.

In men's SL, graduate student Will Bruneau-Bouchard (Quebec City, Quebec) recorded a team-leading 18th-place result in 1:57.04 for 13 points. One day after posting All-American First Team in giant slalom, graduate student Bastian Meisen (Munich, Germany) finished in 20th place (1:57.50, 11 points). Junior Marius Solbakken (Bekkestua, Norway) rounded out the Wildcat scoring with three points by virtue of his 28th-place finish (2:20.70). UNH tied Montana State for ninth in team scoring.
The NCAAs wrap up Saturday, March 12, at Soldier Hollow with the men's 20K freestyle at 11:30 a.m. ET followed by the women's 15K free at 1:30 p.m. ET. Sophomore Jasmine Lyons (Ottawa, Ontario) led the Wildcat Nordic team with an All-American Second Team finish (eighth) in the women's 5K classic on Thursday.
