Alpine Women Lead ‘Cats on Day One at Saint Michael’s Carnival

JEFFERSONVILLE, Vt. – The University of New Hampshire ski team completed day one of the Saint Michael's Carnival on Friday at Smugglers Notch (Alpine) and Sleepy Hollow (Nordic).
UNH sits in fourth place with 339 points, trailing CBC (342), UVM (353.5), and DAR (428).
The Alpine women led the charge for the Wildcats, finishing first in the giant slalom event with 104 points.
Junior Hedda Martelleur (Uppsala, Sweden) claimed fourth place with a time of 1:52.43 to capture 40 points.
Junior Tilde Kandell (Leksand, Sweden) secured seventh (1:52.55) for 35 points, while graduate student Bella Amico (Bronxville, N.Y.) added 29 points and gave the 'Cats a third finisher in the top ten (1:52.99, 10th).
For the men, freshman Jayden Buckrell (Collingwood, ON, Canada) placed 10th (1:50.12) for 30 points.
Graduate student Hayden Dahl (Plymouth, N.H.) added 20 points for 22nd place (1:51.54), while junior Zachary Temertzoglou (Toronto, ON, Canada) picked up 14 points for finishing in 1:52.65 (32nd).
Junior Hattie Barker (Underhill, Vt.) paced the Nordic women with a top ten finish in the 10km skate. She earned 33 points by finishing 8th in 29:22.60.
Junior Emma Charles (Farmington, Maine) gave the Wildcats a second top ten finisher, placing 10th with a time of 29:27.00 for 30 points. Graduate student Jasmine Lyons (Ottawa, Ontario, Canada) followed closely behind in 12th place, finishing in 29:30.60 to add 28 points.
On the men's side, senior Eli Gore (Madison, Wis.) led the Wildcats with a tenth-place finish, clocking in at 25:44.80 to earn 30 points. Senior Roger Anderson (Golden Valley, Minn.) finished 14th in 25:56.70 to collect 28 points.
Freshman Ben Oldham (Carbondale, Colo.) earned 22 points for 22nd place (26:17.80).

- The 'Cats conclude the Saint Michael's Carnival on Saturday, Feb. 1. First run for the slalom begins at 9:30 a.m., while the 3x5km relay will start at 10.
