DURHAM, N.H. — University of New Hampshire Director of Skiing and Nordic Head Coach Shane MacDowell announced the hire of former Wildcat student-athlete Everett Olson as Nordic assistant coach on Wednesday (Nov. 5). Olson previously skied with the Wildcats from 2021-24 after transferring from the University of Alaska Anchorage, where he participated during the 2019-20 season.
In his four years with the Wildcats, Olson skied in 33 races for New Hampshire, highlighted by three top 10 finishes in 2021, including a career-best sixth place finish in the 10k classic at the Vermont Nordic Carnival on Feb. 26, 2021.
"It is great having Everett back at UNH," shared MacDowell, "Being an alum, he has hit the ground running, as he knows what our program is all about. He brings the same hard work and dedication he had as an athlete to his coaching, and I'm excited to see where we can take this program together."
Olson, who served as Nordic team captain for the Wildcats in 2024, shares the same enthusiasm.
"I am very excited to be giving back to a team that gave so much to me," said Olson, "I'm looking forward to working alongside Shane and seeing success from our team this season."
Prior to his return to Durham, Olson served as the Head Development Coach for the Bogus Basin Nordic Team, a nonprofit ski team based in Boise, Idaho.
