DURHAM, N.H. – Christopher Feliciano, third-year head coach of the University of New Hampshire volleyball program, has announced the hiring of Ryan Sullivan as the first assistant coach and Molly Wotton '19 as the second assistant coach.
"I am excited to welcome Ryan to and Molly back to the UNH volleyball family." Feliciano said. "As our program continues to grow and takes steps toward contending for an America East championship, it is vital that the right people are added to our staff."
Sullivan, a 2012 graduate of Indiana University, comes to UNH with experience at three Power 5 conference schools. He was previously as assistant coach at his alma mater as well as Northwestern University and Mississippi State University.
At Northwestern, Sullivan's duties included: training, evaluation and statistical analysis of the service phase; assisting the head trainer with team development, planning, scouting, scheduling and execution; and assisting the recruiting coordinator with recruiting database management.
Sullivan served as assistant coach and video coordinator at Mississippi State, where he developed and trained offensive systems with a specialization in setter development.
"Ryan has demonstrated throughout his coaching career that he is a tremendous leader both on and off the court," Feliciano said. "Throughout his time on the sideline, the teams he's worked with have continuously improved through his instruction."
He was head coach of the Jacksonville University beach volleyball team as well as associate head coach with the volleyball team. His roles as associate head coach included: implement high-level training for all positions and skills as primary trainer; lead scout as technical and video coordinator; and develop defenders, blockers and servers as defensive coordinators.
Sullivan's other coaching experience includes head coach at Louisburg College and assistant coach at Villanova University.
Sullivan began his coaching career at Indiana after graduating with a B.A. in Psychology. He was a four-year setter on the club team, and in 2011 he was named the MIVA Player of the Year and led the team to a No. 3 final rank. He was also a three-year practice player with the varsity team.
Wotton, a native of neighboring Dover, N.H., was a middle blocker and outside hitter for the Wildcats spanning the 2014-18 seasons. New Hampshire won both the America East regular-season and tournament titles and advanced to the NCAA tourney in the 2014-16 seasons. During that span, the 'Cats won 20+ matches every season with an aggregate record of 62-32 (.660 winning percentage) that included 32-4 in America East (.889 winning percentage).
"Adding Molly was a no brainer," Feliciano stated. "We've added a New Hampshire native that has won multiple championships and graduated with a degree here from UNH. Part of the responsibility of a good coach is to be a role model and Molly checks that box. She will be a positive voice in our gym for our young ladies. She will lead and show our team how we can be successful both in the gym and in the classroom."
Wotton has been a coach with NH Seacoast Junior Olympics Volleyball since January 2020. During this time, she has coached 11 girls to develop their technical athletic skills and improve the mental and physical aspects of the game. Wotton had previous coaching stints with NH Seacoast Junior Olympics Volleyball in 2016 and 2018.
Last fall, she was an assistant with the Dover High School girls volleyball team.
Wotton's other coaching experience includes UNH's summer volleyball camps from 2015-18 and NH Seacoast Volleyball clinics for three years. She has also worked as a volunteer and coach at the Special Olympics for 10 years. Wotton was head coach of the Dover High School Special Olympics unified team this past spring.
Wotton graduated from UNH with a B.S. in Recreations Management and Policy in May 2019. She has worked as a paraprofessional educator in the Dover School District since February 2020 and is currently teaching first grade in summer school.
New Hampshire ended the Spring 2021 season on a five-match winning streak to finish with a 7-3 record (both overall and in America East). In the 2019 season – Feliciano's first as UNH head coach – the Wildcats were 17-10 overall and 7-3 in the conference.
