'Cats sweep NJIT for their fourth straight victory

NEWARK, N.J. – The University of New Hampshire volleyball team swept NJIT in America East play on Friday night at the NJIT Wellness and Events Center. The set scores were 25-20, 25-16 and 25-15.
The Wildcats win their fourth consecutive match to improve to 13-9 overall on the season and 4-3 in conference play, while NJIT falls to 1-19 overall (0-7 AE). UNH currently sits in fourth place in the AE standings with five league matches left in the regular-season schedule.
"I was really very proud of our group, they went and took care of business," said UNH head coach Christopher Feliciano."We performed at a high level, multiple players were involved in the recent success we have been having. We just need to continue operating that way moving forward."
Senior middle blocker Abby Sullivan (Methuen, Mass.) posted a team-high eight kills, to go along with a .615 hitting percentage and three total blocks. Sophomore middle blocker Gabby Smith (Carmel, Ind.) added seven kills and three blocks, while
Sophomore outside hitter Hannah Serbousek (Fort Collins, Colo.) and senior outside hitter Kate Bilyeu (Omaha, Neb.) each chipped in with five kills apiece in the victory, while Serbousek added two aces.
Junior setter Wren Macaulay (Lake Orion, Mich.) tallied 28 assists and three blocks running the Wildcats' offense and sophomore libero Mia Pagliarini (Springboro, Ohio) registered a match-high 13 digs in another solid defensive performance for UNH.
The 'Cats tallied 11 kills and a .259 hitting percentage in the opening frame and followed that up with 10 kills, hitting at a .375 clip in the middle stanza. UNH finished the match with 14 kills and a .323 hitting percentage in the third. As a team, UNH hit at a .317 for the entire match.
Adriana Goetz-Morales added a match-high 12 kills in the losing effort for the Highlanders.
UNH returns to action on Sunday, October 24 against Stony Brook. Match time from Lundholm Gymnasium is 1 p.m. on AmericaEast.tv.
