Olhava Records Career-High 20 Kills in Wins vs. Yale, Army

KINGSTON, R.I. – Gabri Olhava (Mount Prospect, Ill.) recorded a career-high 20 kills in both matches to lead the University of New Hampshire volleyball team to victory against Yale, 3-1, and Army West Point, 3-2, at the Art Carmichael Invitational on Saturday. The tourney was played at the University of Rhode Island's Keaney Gymnasium.
In first match of the day, the Wildcats handed Yale its first loss of the season; the set scores were 22-25, 25-14, 25-21, 25-19. UNH returned to the court a couple of hours later to battle Army and outlasted the Cadets in five sets; the scores were 11-25, 25-22, 25-23, 15-25, 15-12.
New Hampshire went 2-1 at the 11th Annual Art Carmichael Invitational and is now 4-6 overall.
Olhava, who was named to the All-Tournament Team, recorded 40 kills (4.44 per set) on a .403 hitting percentage and also had four blocks on Saturday.
Maddie Wiedenfeld (Omaha, Neb.), the reigning America East Rookie of the Week, tallied 25 kills, a .364 hitting percentage and nine blocks. Emma Patlovich (Lake Forest, Ill.) compiled 85 assists (9.44 per set) and Emily Tanski (Plymouth, Mich.), the two-time conference Defensive Specialist of the Week, was credited with 38 digs (4.22 per set).

Wildcat Leaders vs. UConn
- Olhava tallied 20 kills and just one error on 31 attacks for an astronomical .613 hitting percentage; she also had four blocks.
- Hannah Petke (Rancho Santa Margarita, Calif.) finished with 14 kills, a .387 hitting percentage and four blocks.
- Wiedenfeld had 13 kills, a .522 hitting percentage and six blocks.
- Emma Patlovich (Lake Forest, Ill.) recorded her fifth double-double of the year with 43 assists and 12 digs.
- Emily Tanski (Plymouth, Mich.) had a match-high 25 digs, as well as six assists.
- Kennedi Smith (The Woodlands, Texas) tallied eight kills, 12 digs and three blocks.
SET 1
- There were seven ties and three lead changes in the first set.
- UNH opened the match on a 3-0 run on kills by Petke and Wiedenfeld, and an ace by Patlovich.
- Yale answered with four consecutive points, and then neither team led by more than two points until the Bulldogs took a 15-12 lead.
- Yale extended the advantage to five points, 18-13, and UNH never got closer than three points the rest of the set.
SET 2
- There was just one tie and one lead change in the second set.
- Yale won the initial point, but the 'Cats reeled off six consecutive points – three on kills by Wiedenfeld -- to take a lead they would not relinquish.
- Back-to-back aces by Logan Welti (xxx, Wis.) extended the lead to nine points, 13-4, and the margin never got smaller than seven points the rest of the set.
SET 3
- There was one tie and no lead changes in the third set.
- UNH carried momentum into Set 3 by winning the first four points. The lead grew to 8-2 and 19-13 before Yale rallied to tie the score at 20.
- The Wildcats responded with four consecutive points – three on attack errors by the Bulldogs – to surge back in front, 24-20 and then Smith finished off the set with a kill.
SET 4
- There were five ties and two lead changes in the final set of the match.
- Trailing 6-5, UNH on a 6-1 run to take an 11-7 lead. The 'Cats continued to pull away and extended the margin to 18-11.
- New Hampshire led by as many as nine points, 21-12, before Yale won three consecutive points and then closed within 22-18.
- Wiedenfeld recorded a kill on the next point, however, and then Smith and Petke had back-to-back kills to close out the set and match.
NOTES
- After hitting .412 in Set 1, Yale's attack was stymied the next three sets with marks of .097, .045 and .109 for an overall .155 hitting percentage.
- UNH had a massive .310 team hitting percentage for the match, including .371 in Set 1 followed by .500 in the second set.

Wildcat Leaders vs. Army
- Olhava recorded 20 kills on a .244 hitting percentage.
- Wiedenfeld finished the match with 12 kills, .250 hitting percentage and three blocks.
- Patlovich compiled 42 assists, nine digs and three service aces.
- Tanski and Smith tied for the team lead with 13 digs.
SET 1
- There was one tie and no lead changes in the first set as Army won the first point of the match, UNH tied it up, and the Cadets won three consecutive points to take a lead they would not relinquish.
SET 2
- There were 14 ties and four lead changes in the second set.
- With the score knotted at 7, UNH went on a 6-1 run to build a 13-8 advantage. Army reeled off five consecutive points to forge a 13-13 tie.
- With the teams tied at 17, UNH won three straight points but the Cadets responded with a 4-0 run to regain the lead, 21-20.
- The Wildcats called time out and went back in front, 22-21, on a kill by Smith and ace by Patlovich.
- There was a 14th tie of the set at 22, but the 'Cats closed out the set on a 3-0 run on a combined block by Wiedenfeld and Alexa Markman (Chicago, Ill.), kill by Emma Tupa (Brecksville, Ohio), and kill by Wiedenfeld.
SET 3
- There were 13 ties and three lead changes in the third set.
- Neither team lead by more than two points until New Hampshire went on a 5-1 run to take an 11-8 lead.
- Trailing 17-16, Army won four consecutive points to regain the lead, 20-17.
- Out of a UNH timeout, Wiedenfeld recorded back-to-back kills, but the Cadets answered with consecutive points to take a 22-19 lead.
- The 'Cats responded with a 4-0 run, however, and then kills by Olhava and Patlovich closed out the set, 25-23.
SET 4
- There were three ties and one lead change in the fourth set.
- UNH took an early 3-0 lead, but Army surged ahead 4-3. The 'Cats leveled the score at 4-4 and 5-5, but then never pulled even the rest of the set after the home team took a 7-5 advantage.
SET 5
- The Wildcats won the initial two points and never surrendered the lead in the decisive fifth set. The 'Cats saved their best for last with a .364 hitting percentage in Set 5.
- Leading 7-6, UNH created a little distance with back-to-back kills by Wiedenfeld and Olhava, followed by an Army ball handling error that advanced the score to 10-6.
- The 'Cats moved within two points of the match, 13-10, but the Cadets recorded consecutive kills to close within 13-12 and prompt a New Hampshire timeout.
- Army committed an attack error out of the break, then Markman ended the set and match with a kill.
