DURHAM, N.H. – The University of New Hampshire women's soccer team, finishing the non-conference part of their season with a 4-4-1 record, open up America East play at home on Sunday as they host the UMBC Retrievers on Sunday afternoon.
The Wildcats, who went 5-2-1 in America East play last season, look to continue that dominance in the 2018 season. They'll do so against a UMBC team riding their first win of the season, a 4-3 victory over Mount Saint Mary's, on Wednesday evening.
The Series with UMBC
• Conference foes UNH and UMBC have met 16 times in women's soccer since 2003, with UNH holding the all-time advantage with a 9-4-3.
• UMBC holds a slight advantage in the last five meetings with a 2-1-2 record.
• Of those two ties, one was the 2014 America East semifinal round; with a 1-1 tie the game went to PK's, and UNH advanced to eventually claim the 2014 America East title.
• UMBC won the most recent match up last season, by a score of 3-1 in the regular season finale on October 22, 2017.
• UNH's last victory over UMBC came in September of 2016 by way of a 4-0 scoreline.
Last Time Out

• UNH opened the weekend with a heartbreaking double overtime loss to intrastate rival Dartmouth on Thursday.
• The Wildcats found themselves down by one in the final 10 minutes of regulation, when junior captain Caitlyn Keenan (Bow, N.H.) hit a deflected shot into the very bottem left corner of the net to keep the Wildcats alive and send the game to overtime. The Wildcats would hold that tie until halfway through the second overtime period.
• On Sunday, the Wildcats bounced back against Sacred Heart, scoring one goal and holding the Pioneers to just one shot on goal; junior Liz Lane (Porter, Maine) tallied the lone goal in the 14th minute, and Mia Neas (Old Saybrook, Conn.) claimed her first shut out of the season (7th of her career) in the 1-0 victory.
The State of New Hampshire
• New Hampshire was ranked the number one team in the America East in their annual preseason poll that was released on August 6th.

• Also in that first weekend, sophomore Casey Peterson (Clifton, Va.) tallied her first four career points, notching two assists and a goal against Rhode Island.
• In their last five games, New Hampshire has a 1-3-1 record; they dropped two games of their season-opening three-game homestand to #14 Princeton and UMass, after going undefeated in the regular season at home last year (7-0-1).
• The 'Cats are now 1-1-1 in their next three, with a win over ASU, a loss to Arizona, and the draw with Northeastern.
• UNH ended non-conference play splitting the weekend 1-1-0 home against Dartmouth and at Sacred Heart. The 4-4-1 non-conference record is the second best in the Steve Welham era, the first best being last season's 6-3-0 record.
