Lane’s OT Goal Gives UNH 1-0 Win Over UMBC

Wildcats start America East play 1-0-0 for the fifth straight season.
DURHAM, N.H. – Junior Liz Lane (Porter, Maine) scored the game-winning goal in the first overtime as the University of New Hampshire women's soccer team defeated UMBC, 1-0, in the America East opener on Sunday afternoon at Bremner Field.
The Wildcats posted their second straight shutout of the season.
UNH will be on the road for the next two games facing Maine on Thursday, Sept. 27 at 7 p.m. on ESPN+ and UMass Lowell on Thursday, Oct. 4 at 7 p.m. The Wildcats will be back at home hosting Stony Brook on Sunday, Oct. 7 at 2 p.m. at Wildcat Stadium on ESPN+.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
- The Wildcats recorded the first shot on goal in the game. Junior Megan Rumbold (Highlands Ranch, Colo.) took a shot from 30 yards out on a free kick, but UMBC's keeper Leah Roth came out to make the save.
- Junior Ally Reynolds (Weymouth, Mass.) had a chance to put the 'Cats on the board first. From 30 yards out, she took a shot, but again the Retrievers' Roth made the save.
- UNH outshot UMBC in the first half, 6-4.
- Not long into the second half, junior Caitlyn Keenan (Bow, N.H.) passed the ball up to Lane, who fired a shot from 20 yards out. Roth came out to make the stop.
- Lane had another opportunity for the Wildcats in the 63rd minute of the match after she blasted a shot from 20 yards out, but could not direct it into the net, as Roth made another save.
- Rumbold sailed a free kick shot into the box in the 83rd minute, but Roth got a jump to put a hand on it to direct the ball away from the net.
- The Wildcats took 10 shots to UMBC's one in the second half.
- In the first overtime, junior Kaylan Williams (Marion, Ind.) passed the ball up to Lane who blasted a shot from 15 yards out to the top right corner of the net at 92:47 of the match to give the Wildcats the overtime victory.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS:
- UNH outshot UMBC 19-5 overall, including 9-0 for shots on goal.
- Roth made eight saves for UMBC, while the Wildcat defense did not allow a shot on goal.
- UNH took two corner kicks, while UMBC took one.
BEYOND THE BOX SCORE:
- UNH leads the all-time series against UMBC at 10-4-3.
- Lane has two goals this season, both being game-winning goals. She now has four career goals.
- UNH, the preseason favorite, has started America East play 1-0-0 for five consecutive years.
