Wildcats to play at Maine in AE First Round
ORONO, Maine. – Senior Abbi Maier (Cincinnati, Ohio) scored for the Wildcats, but the University of New Hampshire women's soccer team fell to Maine, 2-1, in the regular season finale on Thursday night at New Balance Soccer Complex in the Border Battle Presented by Buffalo Wild Wings.  
With this result the Wildcats will be the No. 5 seed in the America East Championship and will play at No. 4 seed Maine in the First Round on Sunday, Nov. 2 at noon on ESPN+.
 
The 'Cats fall to 4-5-7 (2-2-4 AE), while the Black Bears improve to 4-7-3 (3-3-2 AE).

HOW IT HAPPENED:
- The Wildcats took the first shot on goal of the contest when Maier stole the ball and fired a shot from 20 yards out that was saved by Elena Barenberg in the sixth minute.
- The Black Bears went up 1-0 in the 34th minute (33:17), when a pass by Meghan Bernetti deflected off a Wildcat and went to the back of the net.
- Senior Elaina Grenz (River Edge, N.J.) earned a strong scoring opportunity in the 59th minute when she sent a shot from 15 yards out to the left post, but Barenberg was able to knock it out of bounds.
- Junior Sonja Zeepvat (Mendham, N.J.) made a spectacular diving save in the 61st minute off a shot by Julie Lossius.
- Luise Reinwald gave the Black Bears a 2-0 advantage in the 65th minute (64:13) when she scored from six yards out.
- Maier then cut the deficit to 2-1 in the 74th minute (73:47) when she blasted a penalty kick to the left side of the net for her team-leading sixth goal of the season and her fourth goal on a penalty kick.
