Women’s Soccer Falls Just Short at Harvard, 3-2

Maier and Vanos each recorded a goal
CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – Senior forward Abbi Maier (Cincinnati, Ohio) and junior forward Jules Vano (Yorktown Heights, N.Y.) each scored for the Wildcats, but the University of New Hampshire women's soccer team fell to Harvard, 3-2, on Sunday afternoon at Jordan Stadium.
The 'Cats fall to 1-3-3, while the Crimson improve to 2-3-2.

· The 'Cats return to action for Senior Day on Sunday, Sept. 21 when they take on Southern Maine at Wildcat Stadium at 2 p.m. on ESPN+. Before the game, the Wildcats will honor the seniors for all their hard work and dedication to the program. Also, the game will be Newmarket Youth Soccer Day.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
· The Crimson took the first shot on goal of the game in the 12th minute when sophomore goalkeeper Caroline Cohen (Glastonbury, Conn.) made a save on a shot by Ólöf Kristinsdóttir from 18 yards out.
· The Wildcats took a 1-0 lead in the 16th minute (15:46) when Maier scored on a penalty kick to the lower left side of the net for her second goal of the season. Junior midfielder Elizabeth Finn (Scituate, Mass.) was fouled in the box to force the penalty kick. Abbi Maier scores her second goal of the season!

· Harvard tied the contest at 1-1 in the 30th minute (29:13) as Lauren Muniz knocked in a rebound from six yards out.
· In the 49th minute, Cohen made a diving save on a shot by Phoebe Chadwick to keep the game tied.
· Kristinsdóttir gave the Crimson a 2-1 lead in the 72nd minute (71:51) when she scored on a one timer off a pass from Anna Rayhill from six yards out.
· Harvard extended the lead to 3-1 in the 76th minute (75:51) on goal to the lower right side of the net from 18 yards out by Jasmine Leshnick.
· UNH cut the deficit to 3-2 in the 85th minute (84:10) when Vano sent a shot from 18 yards out to the lower left corner of the net for her first collegiate goal. Freshman forward Alyssa Gimmel (North Ridgeville, Ohio) posted her first collegiate assist on the goal. Jules Vano with her first collegiate goal!

· The Wildcats were unable to score the equalizer for the 3-2 final.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS:
· Harvard outshot UNH, 16-5, while the Crimson posted eight shots on goal and the Wildcats recorded three.
· Cohen made five saves for the 'Cats, while Rhiannon Stewart tallied one save.
