Petke's 14 Kills Propels 'Cats Past Hartford, 3-0

WEST HARTFORD, Conn. – Hannah Petke (Rancho Santa Margarita, Calif.) recorded a match-high 14 kills to lead the University of New Hampshire volleyball team to Thursday night's 3-0 victory against the University of Hartford at Hawks Volleyball Gym.
The set scores were 25-20, 25-20, 25-18.
Petke, the reigning America East Player of the Week, recorded 14 kills and just two errors on 25 attacks for a .480 hitting percentage. Gabri Olhava (Mount Pleasant, Ill.) also tallied double digits in kills with 10 on a .389 hitting percentage; she also finished with five blocks.
The setting duties were once again split between Emma Patlovich (Lake Bluff, Ill.; 23 assists), the reigning America East Rookie of the Week, and Mali Jereczek (Green Bay, Wis.; 15 assists).
Logan Welti (Middleton, Wis.) was credited with a match-high 15 digs and was followed by Kennedi Smith (The Woodlands, Texas), who also tallied three service aces.
UNH improved to 12-13 overall and 7-4 in America East, and climbed into a tie for second place in the standings with one match remaining. Hartford is now 5-20, 2-9.

THE DIFFERENCE
- New Hampshire recorded a .320 hitting percentage – the Wildcats' second-highest mark of the season – highlighted by just two attack errors in Set 2 and a .374 hitting percentage in Set 3.
- Leading by one set and one point, 20-19, in Set 2, UNH won four consecutive points to help secure the second set and a 2-0 lead in the match.
SET 1
- There were just three tie scores and one lead change in the opening set.
- Petke set the tone early with six kills on seven swings for a .857 hitting percentage.
- Jenny Weston (Canton, Mass.) recorded three assisted blocks and UNH had four in the set to help limit Hartford to a .088 hitting percentage.
- With the score tied 8-8, a kill by Petke and block by Molly Wotton (Dover, N.H.) gave the 'Cats a lead they would not relinquish.
- UNH inched ahead 14-9 and led by as many as six points, 23-17, before closing out the set.
SET 2
- There were 10 ties and three lead changes in a tightly-contested second set.
- Smith was the catalyst with five kills, a .556 hitting percentage and six digs.
- UNH built an early 7-4 lead, but the Hawks rallied to level the score at 8. The teams exchanged points until Hartford won consecutive points to take a 14-12 lead.
- The Wildcats went on a 5-1 run out of a timeout to regain a 17-15 lead.
- With UNH leading 20-19, a kill by Olhava sparked a set-ending 5-1 run in which she also had an assisted block and another kill to end the set.
SET 3
- There were five tie scorsd and three lead changes in the final set, in which the duo of Petke (six kills, .667 hitting percentage) and Olhava (five kills, .571) proved to be too much for Hartford.
- The Hawks built their largest lead of the match, 8-5, and also led by that margin at 11-8 and 13-10.
- The Wildcats reeled off five consecutive points, fueled by kills by Olhava and Emily Tanski (Plymouth, Mich.) and a combined block by that tandem, to take a 15-13 lead.
- New Hampshire slowed extended the advantage to 20-15 and led by as many as seven points, 23-16, before Jereczek ended the set and match with the only kill of the night by either UNH setter.
UNH NOTEBOOK
- New Hampshire improved to 43-3 lifetime against Hartford with its 11 consecutive win against the Hawks.
- UNH improved to 4-1 in conference road matches this season.
- The Wildcats' .320 hitting percentage is second only to .398 vs. UMass Lowell on Oct. 20. UNH's third-highest mark of .292 was against Hartford in Lundholm Gym last month.
- Petke's .480 hitting percentage bested her mark of .455 last Sunday at Stony Brook University, and is the third-highest percentage by a Wildcat this year.
