VOLLEYBALL DOWNED IN STRAIGHT SETS, 3-0, AT ALBANY

ALBANY, N.Y.
– Lindsay Fogarty (Pleasanton, Calif.)
recorded a team-high seven kills in the University of New
Hampshire's 3-0 road loss to the University at Albany in
Friday night's America East action at University
Gymnasium.
UNH is now 9-14 overall and 1-5 in the league. UA extended its
winning streak to 13 matches and is now 17-8, 7-0.
Justine Elliott (Mitchellville, Md.) followed
Fogarty with five kills while Kirsten Bates
(Calgary, Alberta), Jessy Dick (Lethbridge,
Alberta) and Amy Keding (Northbrook, Ill.) each
tallied four kills. Bates, who was also credited with nine digs,
now has 979 career kills. Sara Heldman (Greenwood,
Ind.) had a team-high 12 digs and Kate Uitti
(Pinckney, Mich.) finished with 18 assists.
In Set 1, the Great Danes raced out to a 5-0 lead en route to a
10-2 advantage. UNH won three consecutive points to trim the
deficit to five points, but UA won eight of the next nine points to
take control of the game at 18-6.
Albany won the initial three points of the second set, but the
Wildcats responded with five straight points to take their first
lead of the match at 5-3. The spurt included kills by Dick and
Bates as well as a Fogarty service ace. The game was then tied,
5-5, and again at 6-6 before the Great Danes went on a 4-0 run to
take a lead they would not relinquish. UNH fought back initially
with a 3-1 run to close within 11-9, but UA extended its lead to
17-13 and won the next four points to seize control at 21-13.
New Hampshire, behind a pair of kills by Dick, opened up a 3-1 lead
in Set 3. The hosts won seven consecutive points, however, to build
an 8-3 advantage. Albany slowly pulled away to take leads of 16-8
and 21-11 before UNH went on a 6-2 spurt to close within 23-17.
Elliott tallied two kills and both Bates and Keding had one kill
apiece during the Wildcat surge. The Great Danes won the next two
points, however, to close out the match in straight sets.
UNH returns to action Nov. 1 (1 p.m.) at Binghamton. The
Wildcats' next home match is Nov. 14 (1 p.m.) vs. Stony
Brook.
