'Cats Top America East Volleyball Preseason Poll

Two Wildcats Named to Preseason All-Conference Team
BOSTON – The University of New Hampshire volleyball team, led by seventh-year head coach Christopher Feliciano, was picked atop the America East Volleyball Preseason Poll and two Wildcats were named Preseason All-Conference on Thursday.
Senior opposite Meredith Hohnbaum (Indianapolis, Ind.) and junior middle blocker Rachel Grier (Dublin, Calif.) were the two 'Cats voted Preseason All-Conference.
UNH, which won the 2024 America East championship to advance to the NCAA tournament, received all five possible first-place votes and 25 points to rank No. 1 in the preseason poll. UMBC, which received the other first-place vote, and UAlbany tied for second with 18 points. Bryant University (13 points), Binghamton University (11) and NJIT (5) complete the poll.
UNH tied for the highest number of student-athletes named Preseason All-Conference.
Grier, a captain of this year's squad, was a 2024 All-Conference Second Team honoree who tied for 34th in the nation and tied atop the America East leaderboard in blocks per set (1.29). She also ranked fifth in the conference in hitting percentage (.288). Grier led UNH in solo blocks (17) and tied for the team lead in both total blocks (137) and blocks per set. She also ranked second on the team in points (303) and hitting percentage, as well as third in kills (205), kills per set (1.93) and points per set (2.86), and fifth in service aces (21).
Hohnbaum, who has been named to the America East All-Championship Team each of the past two years, ranked No. 7 in America East in blocks per set (0.96) in 2024. She was also No. 8 in the conference in both kills per set (2.49) and hitting percentage (.271), and 10th in points per set (2.97). On the Wildcats' leaderboard, she ranked second in kills (244), kills per set and points per set (2.97), as well as third in blocks (94), blocks per set and points (291).
New Hampshire begins the 2025 season with its annual Holly Young Invitational on Aug. 29-30 at Lundholm Gym. The Wildcats open against College of the Holy Cross (Aug. 29; 6 p.m.) and then play Saint Peter's (Aug. 30; 1 p.m.) and Northeastern University (7 p.m.).
