9/23/2023 10:26:00 PM | Women's Volleyball
DURHAM, N.H. – Hannah Serbousek (Fort Collins Colo.) recorded a match-high 15 kills to lead the University of New Hampshire volleyball team to a 3-1 victory against Dartmouth College on Saturday night, which was celebrated by UNH as Jill Hirschinger Night.
The set scores were 25-11, 17-25, 26-24, 25-13.
UNH shrugged off a tough second set to come back and win the third and fourth sets. Down the stretch, it was Serbousek who came up big for the 'Cats. Serbousek recorded 15 kills and two big blocks, as well as a service ace, for a match-high 17.0 total points. She also tallied 11 digs to finish with her second double-double of the season.
A major turning point in the match was in the third set. UNH believed they had the winning point on an attack error by Dartmouth. The call was reversed on a challenge by Dartmouth to give the Big Green a chance to win the set. Now with the score tied at 24, the Wildcats bounced back from the reversed call with a crucial kill from Serbousek and, on a serve from Avery LePore (Franklin Tenn.), a Dartmouth attack error gave UNH the 26-24 win in Set 3.
Before the match, UNH volleyball welcomed back legendary coach Jill Hirschinger, who coached the Wildcats for 23 seasons from 1996 to 2018. Coach Hirschinger was met with a standing ovation from former players and fans and honored with a custom volleyball.
UNH improved to 9-5 overall and 2-0 at home while Dartmouth fell to 3-7.
