Wildcats Defeat River Hawks 5-1, Clinch Home Playoff Game

#4 seed New Hampshire will host #5 seed Binghamton on Sunday.
Senior Kaylan Williams (Marion, Indiana) scored two goals in the first half, and assisted on the opening goal of the game to fellow senior Ally Reynolds (Weymouth, Mass.)
Sophomore goalkeeper Cat Sheppard (Nesconset, N.Y.) allowed a goal in the first half but made six saves to backstop the team to its ninth win of the season. Her record on the season is 9-7-0.
UP NEXT: The Wildcats clinch the #4 seed with a win and a tie by Hartford; they will host a quarterfinal game in Wildcat Stadium against #5 seed Binghamton at 2 pm on Sunday, November 3rd.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
- Kaylan Williams passed the ball with her right foot up to Ally Reynolds in the penalty box. Reynolds controlled the ball and sent it to the upper left corner of the goal with her left foot at 42:12 for the first goal of the game.
- Williams tallied her first goal in the 17th minute as a free kick ricocheted off a defender, off of the crossbar, and then found the foot of Williams who knocked the rebound in.
- Williams' second goal came in the 22nd minute after she stole the ball off the feet of the UML goalkeeper, and shot it with her right foot to the lower left corner at 23:52.
- River Hawks scored their lone goal of the game by Giulia Rabbito who fired a shot from just inside the 18, and the shot deflected off a UNH defender and into the net.
- Whitney Wiley (Vienna, Va.) scored the fourth goal of the game outside the 18-yard line on a free kick that went upper-90 on the left side of the net with just five minutes to go in the first.
- In the second half, Liz Lane (Porter, Maine) tallied a goal in the 56th minute; her initial shot was saved by UML 'keeper Annerens Tijm. The shot rebounded off the goalie for a rebound attempt which Lane buried with her left foot to go up 5-1.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS:
- Despite tallying five goals UNH had less possession percentage, trailing UML 42% to 58%
- Kaylan Williams had three shots on goal and scored on two of them.
- Both teams posted three saves in each half.
BEYOND THE BOX SCORE:
- Ally Reynolds scored the first goal between UNH and UMass Lowell in three years. The previous two matchups between the two ended in 0-0 draws.
- Reynolds leads the team with eight goals, 19 points.
- Kaylan Williams first goal of the game was her first game-winner of the 2019 season. She now has four goals and four assists on the year for 12 points.
- UNH has hosted an America East playoff game three times in the Steve Welham
- New Hampshire defeated Binghamton in the America East quarterfinal in Durham in 2014; with a 1-1 score, the game was decided by penalty kicks. The Wildcats went on to win the America East tournament.
