Olhava Records Match-High 19 Kills in 3-1 Loss to Stony Brook

DURHAM, N.H. – Senior Gabri Olhava (Mount Prospect, Ill.) recorded a match-high 19 kills and 21.5 points as the University of New Hampshire volleyball team fell 3-1 against Stony Brook University at Lundholm Gymnasium on Sunday afternoon.
Olhava's other statistics included a .341 hitting percentage, team-high three blocks and eight digs. Hannah Petke (Rancho Santa Margarita, Calif.), sidelined by injury the previous seven matches, recorded her second double-double of the season with 10 kills and 10 digs. Emily Tanski (Plymouth, Mich.) led five Wildcats in double-digit digs with 15 and Mali Jereczek (Green Bay, Wis.) had a season-high 34 assists.
SBU was led by Brooks McKyla and Jordan Gels with 13 kills apiece, followed by Maria Poole with 12. Leanne Sakowicz orchestrated the Seawolves to a .225 hitting percentage with 44 assists. She also had 18 digs. Kiani Kerstetter finished with a match-high 23 digs.
The Wildcats are now 6-11 overall and 2-1 in America East play. Stony Brook is 9-8, 3-0.

SET 1
- There were no ties of lead changes in the first set as Stony Brook won the opening four points and built an 8-2 lead.
SET 2
- There were four ties and two lead changes in the second set.
- UNH surged out to a 3-1 lead and held a two-point 11-9 edge when the Seawolves won four consecutive points to take a 13-11 lead.
- Stony Brook led the Wildcats 15-12 at the media timeout.
- After the media timeout, SBU won 4 of 7 points to extend the advantage to 19-15 and force UNH to call a timeout.
- Trailing 22-17, the 'Cats went on a 3-0 run with a kill by Petke, combined block by Olhava and Petke and kill by Petke.
- The visitors called time out, but New Hampshire continued its surge with two more Olhava kills and another by Kennedi Smith (The Woodlands, Texas) to trim the deficit to one point, 23-22.
- SBU used its second timeout and Emily Costello's kill made it 24-22.
The Wildcats fended off one set point on Olhava's kill, but then Stony Brook closed out Set 2 on a kill from Kendra Harlow to lead the match, 2-0.

- There were no ties or lead changes in the third set after the 'Cats won the initial three points.
- UNH had a 6-2 run with two kills by Petke and a kill from both Smith and Maddie Wiedenfeld (Omaha, Neb.).
- The Wildcats held a 10-6 lead at Stony Brook's first timeout, but the Seawolves responded with back-to-back kills.
- Logan Welti (Middleton, Wis.) had two service aces in a row to give UNH a 13-8 lead.
- Smith had two kills and and Olhava recorded another as the Wildcats surged ahead, 18-11, to force SBU to call time out.
- Stony Brook went on a four-point run to cut the Wildcat's lead to 22-20, which led the Wildcats to call their final timeout.
- After the teams exchanged one point each, Olhava's two kills secured the Wildcats' win of the third set, 25-21.
SET 4
- There were four ties and three lead changes in the fourth set.
- New Hampshire opened a 6-3 lead, but the Seawolves advanced on a 4-0 run to take a 7-6 lead.
- At the Wildcats first timeout, Stony Brook held a five-point lead, 14-9, by earning six points in a row.
- Trailing 20-13, UNH went on a 4-0 run to close within 20-17. Patlovich, Petke and Olhava recorded kills during the run, which also included a combined block by Olhava and Molly Wotton (Dover, N.H.).
- Stony Brook answered with three consecutive points to establish a 23-17 cushion.
- Olhava's kill and service ace lifted the 'Cats within 23-19, but then an SBU kill by Gels and UNH attack error ended the set and match.
UNH NOTEBOOK
- UNH entered the match with 10 consecutive wins in the series vs. Stony Brook.
- The Seawolves previously defeated the Wildcats Oct. 4, 2013.
- The 'Cats had won 11 straight home matchups vs. SBU dating back to the Seawolves' win Oct. 12, 2007.
