WHAT TO KNOW...
REMATCH OF NCAA TOURNAMENT: The No. 19 University of New Hampshire men's soccer team is set for its home opener on Monday, Aug. 27 at 7:00 p.m. at Wildcat Stadium versus Fairfield. The game will be a rematch of last year's first round NCAA Tournament contest versus the Stags. UNH won by a 3-0 score at Wildcat Stadium to earn the program's first ever NCAA Tournament victory.
THE MATCH UP: The Wildcats are 0-1-0 this season with a 1-0 loss at No. 15 Virginia as the Cavaliers scored with just 21.3 seconds left in the second half. UNH outshot Virginia by an 11-10 margin, while the Cavaliers took five shots on goal and UNH tallied two. Each team had four corner kicks. This is the season opener for the Stags. Last year, Fairfield went 12-5-3 with a 7-1-2 mark in the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference. The Stags won the MAAC Tournament and then fell to UNH in the first round of the NCAA Tournament.
UNH IN HOME OPENERS: The Wildcats have won four straight home openers.
UNDEFEATED AT WILDCAT STADIUM IN 2017: The Wildcats went 10-0-3 last season on their home turf at Wildcat Stadium. UNH was just one of nine teams out of 205 to go undefeated at home. UNH outscored its opponents at home by a 24-5 margin.
HISTORIC 2017 SEASON: UNH posted a historic season in 2017 as the Wildcats (13-4-5) were ranked as high as a program-best No. 12 in the United Soccer Coaches Poll, hosted their first home NCAA Tournament game and earned their first victory in the NCAA Tournament. The Wildcats made it to the third round of the NCAA Tournament for the first time in program history.
