Sackie's OT Goal Gives #19 Wildcats Win Versus Fairfield

UNH improves to 1-1-0 on the season.
DURHAM, N.H. - Junior Donnett Sackie (Monrovia, Liberia) scored the game-winning goal in overtime as the No. 19 University of New Hampshire men's soccer team defeated Fairfield, 1-0, at Wildcat Stadium in the home opener for UNH. The Wildcats advance to 1-1-0, while the Stags start the season 0-1-0.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- Fairfield's Gordon Botterill posted the first shot of the match from 25 yards out that was saved by graduate student Lars Huxsohl (Hamburg, Germany) in the 21st minute.
- Then, senior Juan Velazquez (San Francisco, Calif.) had the Wildcats' first shot of the game in the 25th minute from 30 yards out, which was saved by Fairfield's Gordon Botterill.
- In the 30th minute, junior Linus Fallberg (Jonkoping, Sweden) sent a pass through traffic to junior Antonio Colacci (Bradenton, Fl.), who redirected the ball from five yards out but it was saved by Botterill.
- After the first half the Wildcats outshot the Stags 6-1, while UNH took two shots on goal and Fairfield posted one.
- The Wildcats looked to take the lead when junior Kyle Brewster (New Hampton, N.H.) fired a shot from 25 yards out, but Botterill knocked the ball over the net to keep the game at 0-0 in the 53rd minute.
- In the 56th minute Linus Fallberg sent a low shot from the corner, which led to Botterill making a diving save.
- In the 88th minute, the Wildcats almost found the back of the net when junior Jack Doherty (Meriden, N.H.) sent a pass to Sackie who then did a spin around as his shot went just wide past the goal.
- In the 92nd minute with the game still tied 0-0, Colacci sent a shot into the box, which was saved by Botterill and then the rebound was finished into the top corner of the net by Sackie, with his first goal of the season.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS
- The Wildcats outshot the Stags, 18-1.
- Huxsohl made one save, while Botterill posted six.
- UNH had seven shots on goal and UNH tallied one.
- UNH had 10 corner kicks, while Fairfield had 0.
BEYOND THE BOXSCORE:
- This was Sackie's first goal as a Wildcat.
- Huxsohl earned his first victory at UNH.
- This was a rematch of last year's first round NCAA Tournament contest. UNH won by a 3-0 score at Wildcat Stadium to earn the program's first ever NCAA Tournament victory.
- UNH starts 1-0-0 at Wildcat Stadium. The Wildcats went 10-0-3 last season on their home turf. UNH was just one of nine teams out of 205 to go undefeated at home. UNH outscored its opponents at home by a 24-5 margin.
