‘Cats score three straight goals after trailing 2-0

VESTAL, N.Y. – With the Wildcats trailing 2-0 with 13:44 remaining in the second half, UNH scored three consecutive goals to stun the Bearcats as the University of New Hampshire men's soccer team defeated Binghamton, 3-2, on Saturday afternoon at Bearcats Sports Complex in the America East opener for both teams.

Freshman midfielder Gershom Matimano (Manchester, N.H.) scored his first collegiate goal to put the 'Cats on the board, while senior forward Elias Khodri (Lyon, France) tied the game with a spectacular goal, then freshman forward Xahvi DeRoza (Warwick, Bermuda) recorded his first career goal for the game winner.

The Wildcats, who have won three straight games, improve to 3-4-3 (1-0-0 AE), while the Bearcats fall to 4-6-0 (0-1-0 AE).

HOW IT HAPPENED:

The Bearcats took the first shot on goal in the seventh minute when Anthony Randazzo sent a low shot from eight yards out, but graduate student Claudio Fuentealba (Rancagua, Chile) made the save.
Binghamton took a 1-0 lead in the 35th minute (34:36) when Marcus Nahim scored on a breakaway.
The Bearcats extended their advantage to 2-0 in the 56th minute (55:31) with a goal by Randazzo as he placed a shot to the lower right corner of the net from 12 yards out.
Matimano cut the deficit to 2-1 in the 77th minute (76:10) when he tipped in a pass by senior midfielder Terry Makedika (Paris, France) for his first collegiate goal.

Then in the 87th minute (86:22), Khodri blasted a shot from 25 yards out to the upper right corner of the net to tie the match, 2-2.

Just 1:07 later (87:29), DeRoza cliched the win when he fired a shot from 25 yards out to the lower right side of the net for his first career goal.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS:

UNH outshot Binghamton, 18-5, while the Wildcats posted five shots on goal and the Bearcats attempted four.
The Wildcats took seven corner kicks and the Bearcats posted two.
Fuentealba made two saves for UNH to earn the win, while Daniel Shannon also tallied two saves.
