BURLINGTON, Vt. – Senior goalkeeper Scott Williams (Cincinnati, Ohio) was outstanding in net with 10 saves and senior captain Matteo Piccardo (Genova, Italy) scored for the Wildcats, but the No. 4 seed University of New Hampshire men's soccer team fell to No. 1 seed and No. 2 nationally-ranked Vermont, 2-1 in overtime, on a snowy Wednesday night at Virtue Field in the Semifinals of the America East Championship.

The Catamounts advance to the America East Championship Game and will play No. 2 seed and No. 5 nationally-ranked Bryant on Sunday, Nov. 16 on ESPN+. The Bulldogs defeated No. 6 seed UMass Lowell, 4-2, in the other semifinal.

The Wildcats conclude the season at 5-8-5, while the Catamounts improve to 13-0-5.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

The Wildcats took an early 1-0 lead in the ninth minute (8:22), when Piccardo sent a shot from 14 yards out to the upper right corner of the net.
Senior forward Elias Khodri (Lyon, France) went one-on-one with the goalkeeper in the 26th minute, but Niklas Herceg made the save.
Williams made a big save in the 32nd minute when Marcell Papp fired a shot from 20 yards out towards the upper middle of the net, but Williams deflected the ball away to keep the Catamounts off the scoreboard.
Williams then recorded another strong save on a shot from 12 yards out by Philipp Kühn in the 36th minute.
Gabriel Chavez rocketed a shot from 20 yards out in the 50th minute as Williams made a stellar diving save.
The UNH defense held strong and withstood five straight shots from UVM in a 32- second span to keep the game at 1-0.
The Catamounts then tied the contest at 1-1 in the 85th minute when David Ismail found the back of the net, from six yards out.
The match would go to overtime as UVM earned the win in the 98th minute (97:43) when Ismail headed the ball to Maximilian Kissel who scored on a one-timer from five yards out.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS:

UVM outshot UNH, 29-7, while the Catamounts took 12 shots on goal and the Wildcats attempted five.
