Men’s Soccer Clinches AE Tourney Bid with 2-1 Win at UMass Lowell

Elias Khodri scored two goals for the ‘Cats
LOWELL, Mass. – Senior Elias Khodri (Lyon, France) scored two goals for the Wildcats as the University of New Hampshire men's soccer team defeated UMass Lowell, 2-1, on Friday evening at Cushing Field Complex in America East action.
With the win, the Wildcats have clinched a bid to the America East Championship for the 11th straight season.
The Wildcats improve to 5-6-4 (3-2-1 AE), while the River Hawks fall to 7-6-2 (2-3-1 AE).
Khodri leads the team with seven goals and 15 points on the season.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
- The Wildcats took a 1-0 lead in the seventh minute (6:40), when Khodri volleyed a one-timer from six yards out to the back of net off a pass by freshman Xahvi DeRoza (Warwick, Bermuda).
- Then UNH increased the advantage to 2-0 with a penalty kick goal by Khodri who fired a shot to the lower right corner of the net in the 18th minute (17:59).
- Inak Esnaola took a shot from 15 yards as his attempt hit the bottom right post in the 41st minute with score the remaining 2-0.
- The River Hawks cut the deficit to 2-1 in the 47th minute (46:12) when Oscar Perez scored on a PK to the lower right side of the goal.
- UNH recorded a strong scoring opportunity in the 74th minute when junior Ryo Miyata (Yokohama, Japan) rocketed a free kick but hit the woodwork.
- The UNH defense was able to keep UML from scoring the equalizer for the 2-1 final.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS:
- UNH outshot UML, 10-9, while each team took three shots on goal.
- The River Hawks recorded three corner kicks and the Wildcats took two.
