Smith Stops 40 in Loss to #6 Northeastern

The senior netminder made a career-high 40 saves in the 3-0 loss.
DURHAM, N.H. – Senior captain Kyra Smith (Littleton, Colo.) made a career-high 40 saves but the University of New Hampshire women's ice hockey team fell to #6 ranked Northeastern University by a score of 3-0 on Friday evening.
The Wildcats were able to kill off all five Northeastern power plays, but were unable to prevent two even-strength goals and short-handed goal in the contest.
Smith's previous career-high of 39 was posted on November 19, 2016 against Providence College.
New Hampshire travels to Boston on Saturday, November 10 as the Wildcats will close out the season series with Northeastern at 2 P.M. at Matthews Arena.

GAME RECAP
- A scoreless first period saw a total of 15 shots on goal, with Northeastern tallying nine of them. The Wildcats killed off a 5-on-3 Northeastern power play to keep the game scoreless.
- On a UNH powerplay that expanded into the second period, a mishandled puck in the defensive zone resulted in a shorthanded goal by Northeastern's Alina Meuller, giving the Huskies a 1-0 lead just 20 seconds into the second period.
- An even-strength tally from Northeastern's Brooke Hobson 14 minutes into the period gave the Huskies a 2-0 lead going into the second intermission.
- The Wildcats tallied 14 shots in the second period, their highest total of all three periods. Northeastern was able to fire off 21 in the period.
- Northeastern added insurance 3:29 into the third period on another even strength goal, this one from Chole Aurard.
- The Wildcats got a late power play opportunity with less than a minute and pulled the goaltender for a two-skater advantage. The Wildcats were unable to get on the board with that opportunity.
