Four Goal First Period Powers 'Cats Past Assumption

Four Wildcats earned their first career goal in the win
WORCESTER, Mass. — The University of New Hampshire women's ice hockey team took care of business against Assumption University on Friday evening at Fidelity Bank Worcester Ice Arena, skating to a 5-1 win.
Four Wildcats earned their first collegiate goal in the win, fueled by a four goal first period.
UNH got going early on offense, with three goals in the opening nine minutes of action, giving the 'Cats a 3-0 edge midway through the first. Freshman Nina Rossi (Pittsgrove, N.J.) collected her first collegiate goal 3:24 into the first off a feed from Charlie Rauch (Ramsey, N.J.), putting UNH ahead. Just 1:38 later, freshman Kristen Hartman (Newmarket, Ontario) found her first career goal on the power-play, doubling the Wildcats' advantage.
The 'Cats continued their offensive onslaught with 11:23 to play in the opening frame, when Hartman found freshman Josie Linn (Excelsior, Minn.), who got it past Assumption's Jayden Weiser for her first collegiate goal. Late in the first, junior defensemen Lucie Legro (Brentwood, N.H.) got in on the action, potting her first collegiate goal with 2:35 to play in the period, giving UNH the 4-0 lead into the first intermission.
Assumption got one back midway through the middle frame, as Alexi Kirkeby converted on a pass from Alexa Hanrahan, making it a 4-1 game.
The Wildcats closed it out midway through the third period, when Rossi found the back of the net for her second goal of the night, bringing about the final 5-1 decision.
Junior goaltender Sedona Blair (Eden Prairie, Minn.) stood tall in net all night, denying 27-of-28 shots, good for a .964 save percentage.
