Women's Hockey Claws Back, Defeats Union 3-1

Three different Wildcats scored in the win
SCHENECTADY, N.Y. — The University of New Hampshire women's ice hockey team skated to a win over Union College on Saturday afternoon at M&T Bank Center, defeating the Garnet Chargers 3-1.
Neither team connected on offense in the opening frame, leaving the game scoreless through 20 minutes of play. The Wildcats held the edge over the Garnet Chargers in shots on net 10-8, paced by a three-shot period from junior Julia Cabral (Lee, N.H.) and sophomore Charlie Rauch (Ramsey, N.J.).
The Garnet Chargers got onto the board late in the second period, when forward Quinn Dunkle connected early on the power-play, setting Union ahead 1-0. The 'Cats were outshot in the middle frame 11-10, paced by freshman Nina Rossi (Pittsgrove, N.J.) with three shots on net.
UNH tied things up just 59 seconds into the third period, when senior captain Kelly Harty (Billerica, Mass.) collected her own rebound and pocketed it past Union's Emma Rheaume, locking the score at 1-1. With 7:11 to play in the third, Rossi found the back of the net for her third goal of the season to give the 'Cats the late lead. Freshman Aurora Kahlert (Maple Ridge, British Columbia) iced the game for UNH with a late empty-net goal, securing the 3-1 win.
In the win, Harty extended her goal streak to three games, with an empty net goal against Assumption (Oct. 4), and a pair of goals against Union (Oct. 10-11).
Junior goaltender Noemi Martinez (Glen Ridge, N.J.) stopped 31-of-32 shots faced, good for a .969 save percentage in her second win of the season.
