BOSTON — Former University of New Hampshire defenseman Kacey Bellamy ('09) was named Player Development Consultant by the Boston Fleet on Wednesday, Oct. 15. Bellamy joins the coaching staff following a five-year stint with Maples Crossing as a Director of Athletic Development.
Bellamy, a three-time Olympian, was an integral piece for the Wildcats in her four seasons in Durham (2006-09), amassing 27 goals and 80 assists for 107 career points through 143 games. On Oct. 20, 2024, Bellamy was inducted into the UNH Athletics Hall of Fame.
During her senior campaign, Bellamy was a force on the blue line, ranking third nationally in defensive scoring (0.80 points/game) while captaining the Wildcats to their fourth-consecutive Hockey East postseason title. In her final season with UNH, Bellamy was named to the RBK All-America First Team, alongside her inclusions as a First Team All-Star, Tournament MVP, and All-Tournament Team following the Hockey East playoffs. Additionally, she was honored as UNH's Jim Urquhart Student-Athlete of the Year in 2009.
The native of Westfield, Mass. led the UNH women's hockey team to four consecutive Hockey East regular season and tournament titles, as well as four straight appearances in the NCAA tournament with two trips to the Frozen Four. She returned to her alma mater as a volunteer assistant coach for the 2010-11 season.
In both her sophomore and junior and seasons, Bellamy ranked 10th across the nation in defensive scoring, culminating in a pair of Hockey East Second Team All-Star nominations. Additionally, Bellamy earned conference All-Tournament Team nods in both her freshman and sophomore seasons.
In her freshman season, Bellamy closed out with eight goals and 16 assists for 24 points alongside an impressive +39 rating, earning her USCHO All-Rookie Team honors in 2006.
"The Fleet are extremely lucky to have Kacey as part of their coaching staff," said assistant coach Sam Faber, who played with Bellamy at UNH from 2005-09, "Not only was she the best player I ever played with, but what sets her apart is how competitive she is. Her hockey IQ is next to none and she is a wonderful person, I am very happy for her."
In the 2010 Vancouver Olympic Games, Bellamy became the fifth UNH alum to compete on a U.S. Olympic Women's Ice Hockey Team. In addition to her appearance on the 2010 team, Bellamy skated for Team USA at the '14 Olympics in Sochi as well as the '18 Olympics in Pyeongchang, serving as an alternate captain for the gold medal team in 2018.
Bellamy's career with the U.S. Women's National Team began after finishing her freshman campaign at UNH during the 2005-06 season. She was selected as a member of Team USA for the 2006 Four Nations Cup and went on to play in 13 more Four Nations Cups with seven gold medals.
Bellamy also won gold in 7 of 8 IIHF Women's World Championships. She was on the roster of the U.S. Women's National Teams in both 2020 and 2021, but COVID-19 canceled international competitions in '20 and postponed them in '21.
In total, Bellamy logged 130 games with the U.S. Women's National Team from 2006-21, totaling 11 goals and 38 assists for 49 points. In the U.S. record book, she ranks first among blueliners in games played, fourth in assists and tied for fourth in points.
In addition to her time with USA Hockey, Bellamy played 10 seasons of professional hockey, including five with the Boston Blades (2010-15), where she helped the squad capture the Clarkson Cup in 2013. Bellamy also played for the Boston Pride for two seasons and helped the team win the Isobel Cup, then returned to the Canadian Women's Hockey League with the Calgary Inferno, and most recently played in the Professional Women's Hockey Players Association.
