What You Need to Know:
- The University of New Hampshire men's soccer team, which defeated Fairfield, 3-0, for its first-ever NCAA Tournament victory, will take on No. 17 nationally ranked and No. 15 seeded Dartmouth on Sunday, Nov. 19 at 1:00 p.m., at Burnham Field in Hanover, N.H., in the second round.
- The winner of the game will advance to the third round and play the winner of No. 2 seed Indiana or Old Dominion.
- Earlier this season, UNH defeated the Big Green, 4-2, on Oct. 17 at Wildcat Stadium.
- The Wildcats are 13-3-4 overall this season and went 4-2-1 in America East. The Big Green are 12-3-1 and won the Ivy League championship with a 6-0-1 record.
- This is the Wildcats' second appearance in the NCAA Tournament and their first in 23 years. The win versus Fairfield was the first-ever home NCAA Tournament game for the UNH men's soccer team in program history.
- The Wildcats are ranked No. 20 in the RPI, while the Big Green are No. 16.
- UNH went 10-0-3 this season at Wildcat Stadium and 3-3-1 on the road.
- After the loss to the Wildcats, the Big Green have won four straight.
- This is the 18th NCAA Tournament appearance for the Big Green (1964, 1977, 1978, 1990, 1992, 1997, 2000, 2004, 2005, 2007, 2008, 2009, 2010, 2011, 2014, 2015, 2016, 2017). The Big Green have reached the quarterfinal round twice (1990 and 1992).
- The Wildcats have outscored their opposition 30-11 and have 11 shutouts. The Big Green have outscored its opponents by a 31-12 margin.
- Only twice this season has UNH allowed more than one goal in a game. UNH defeated the Big Green, 4-2, and fell to UMass Lowell, 2-1, in the America East semifinal game.
- UNH's 0.519 goals against average is ranked seventh in the nation.
- Graduate student Andrew Pesci has 11 shutouts this season which are third in the nation.
The MATCHUP: UNH is ranked 63rd nationally with 1.55 goals per game and the Wildcats are seventh in the country with 0.519 goals allowed per game. UNH's .750 winning percentage is 15th nationally. The Wildcats have 6.10 shots on goal this season which are 38th nationally. The Big Green are 22nd nationally with 1.94 goals scored per contest, while they are ranked 19th with a team goals against average of 0.728. The Big Green's winning percentage of .781 is 11th in the country. The Big Green take 5.56 shots on goal which are 70th nationally.
UNH IN THE NCAA TOURNAMENT: This will be the third NCAA Tournament game in program history for UNH. The Wildcats just recently defeated Fairfield, 3-0, while UNH lost at Brown, 3-2, in overtime in the first round of the 1994 tournament. The Wildcats went 15-5-2 in 1994 and earned an at-large bid to the tournament.
WILDCATS EARN FIRST NCAA TOURNEY VICTORY: Graduate student Robin Schmidt netted two goals as the Wildcats defeated Fairfield, 3-0, on Nov. 16 at Wildcat Stadium for their first ever NCAA Tournament win. Junior Kristian Piippo also found the back of the net. Graduate student Andrew Pesci made five saves to post the shutout.
UNDEFEATED AT WILDCAT STADIUM: UNH is undefeated at Wildcat Stadium this season with a 10-0-3 record. The Wildcats are 3-3-1 on the road.
2-0-0 VERSUS RANKED TEAMS: This will be the third time this season the Wildcats play a ranked team. UNH defeated No. 22 Boston College, 2-0, on Sept. 1, while the Wildcats defeated No. 20 Dartmouth, 4-2, on Oct. 17.
WILDCATS EARN ALL-LEAGUE ACCOLADES: Graduate student Robin Schmidt has been named the America East Men's Soccer Striker of the Year, while UNH also won the Coaching Staff of the Year award. Schmidt, freshman Linus Fallberg and junior Otto Sahlen earned All-America East first team accolades, while graduate student Willis Griffith was named to the second team. Red-shirt freshman Josh Bauer and Fallberg received All-Rookie team honors. Junior Chris Arling earned a spot on the All-Academic team. Also sophomore Kyle Brewster and freshman Jacob Gould earned America East All-Tournament honors.
PESCI OUTSTANDING IN NET: Graduate student Andrew Pesci is ranked ninth nationally with a 0.519 goals against average, while his 11 shutouts are third. His 11 shutouts are a school record for a season. The team has allowed only 11 goals all year. He is 13-3-4 this year and has a 27-10-4 career record with 18 shutouts.
SCHMIDT LEADS UNH: Graduate student Robin Schmidt leads the team with eight goals and 17 points. He also leads the team with three game-winning goals.
