Peter Holmes, a junior from Tahoe City, Calif., was the top ‘Cat in both men’s Nordic races at last weekend’s season-opening St. Lawrence Carnival to lead the UNH ski team to third place overall.
Peter began the 2017 season with the classic sprint on Jan. 20 and raced to third place with a time of 3:04.95. That performance helped the UNH men’s Nordic squad record the third-highest team score in the discipline.
He ended the two-day event with a 20th-place effort in the 10K freestyle; he completed the Mt. Van Hoevenberg course in 29 minutes, 55.6 seconds.
Peter recorded seven top-10 finishes as a sophomore in the 2016 EISA circuit, and that included sixth in the 10K freeskate and eighth in the 20K classic at the EISA Championships. He went on to compete at the NCAAs, where he placed 14th in the 20K classic.
