Senior places eighth at Mittersill; Wildcats in eighth place overall after Day 3
Senior Rachel Nawrocki (New Castle, N.H.) paced the Wildcat women's alpine skiers with an 11th-place finish -just 0.22 seconds shy of All-American recognition.
"We're all pretty happy. Will ended up eighth and Rachel had a really good day. I'm really happy for them," UNH alpine head coach Brian Blank said. "Will put two solid runs together. He had some problems in the first run, but he had a good starting position for the second run and took advantage of it and put down a really good run. Rachel had a couple of good, solid runs, too. Eleventh place, so close to being an All-American. Overall, I'm happy with how the team did. It was a good day for the team."
Through three days of action, the Wildcats are in eighth place with 174 points. The NCAA Championships conclude Saturday, March 13, with the women's 15K freestyle (10 a.m.) and men's 20K freestyle (12 p.m.) at Jackson XC.Bruneau-Bouchard combined a first-run time of 45.72 seconds with a second-run finish of 44.89 to total 23 points in a combined 1:30.61.
"The first run, I got in a little trouble at the top and then I skied well on the bottom, so I was excited for the second run," Bruneau-Bouchard said. "I had nothing to lose, so I had to go for it, and it worked out well. Everyone was cheering. It was great. The course was good for me."
"It's my third year at NCAAs and I knew what I had to do," Bruneau-Bouchard added. "Being able to do it and finish well, I'm really excited about it. It's a little overwhelming. I'm happy about it."
Nawrocki's combined effort of 1:42.81 resulted in a team-leading 20 points.FULL RESULTS
