Evan Gray ’19 joined the administrative team as the Assistant Athletic Director, Student-Athlete Wellness and Academic Support Services, in June 2023. In this role, Evan provides a wide array of support to student-athletes in terms of student-athlete wellness and academic support. He coordinates and facilitates educational programming to assist in the personal and professional development of all student-athletes. Topics covered include, but are not limited to, career placement, student-athlete welfare, leadership development, community involvement, mentoring, financial management, sexual assault and violence prevention, and stress/time management. From an academic standpoint, he mentors, counsels, and provides proactive monitoring to student-athletes to ensure academic success.
Prior to his return to Durham, Evan worked at Florida State University as the Student-Athlete Academic Services (SAAS) Assistant Academic Advisor (2022-23). In that role he monitored progress toward degree and eligibility for Seminole football student-athletes, delivered football tutor summary reports to academic advisors and learning specialists, and collaborated with the Leaders Yearning for Excellence (LYFE): Beyond the Spear program. The LYFE program was built to promote the social, intellectual and academic well-being of Black male student-athletes.
Evan earned his Master of Science degree in Athletic Leadership from Clemson University in 2022. While at Clemson, Evan was a student intern in the Passionate About Winning (PAW) Journey program. This position involved collaborating with colleagues to assist Clemson football players in creating resumes, cover letters and LinkedIn profiles. He created PAW Journey promotional material and gave tours to recruits and stakeholders. Previously, he was a student intern in the athletic marketing department, where he assisted in the development, coordinator and implementation of marketing and promotional efforts for Tiger Athletics programs.
Evan earned his Bachelor of Science degree in Kinesiology: Sport Studies with a minor in Business Administration from UNH in 2019.
The Centreville, Va., native was a running back for the Wildcat football team from 2015-19. As a senior captain, he earned CAA All-Conference First Team honors when he carried the ball 108 times for 646 rushing yards and four touchdowns, both of which were team highs. He ranked No. 2 on the CAA leaderboard in yards per carry and eighth in rushing yards per game.
At the 2020 Senior Showcase, Evan earned the University’s Tina True Award for his dedication to the strength and conditioning program.
