Six 'Cats Receive CAA Football All-Conference Award

RICHMOND – Senior running back and captain Evan Gray (Centreville, Va.) of the University of New Hampshire football team was named CAA All-Conference First Team Offense to highlight a total of six Wildcats who received all-conference recognition on Tuesday.
Senior cornerback Prince Smith, Jr. (Philadelphia, Pa.) and junior safety Evan Horn (Lebanon, Pa.) were voted All-Conference Second Team Defense. Junior placekicker Jason Hughes (Atkinson, N.H.) and sophomore offensive lineman Patrick Flynn (Hanover, Mass.) were both All-Conference Third Team Offense honorees, while sophomore defensive lineman Niko Kvietkus (Southington, Conn.) was named All-Conference Third Team Defense.
Gray carried the ball 108 times for 646 rushing yards and four touchdowns, both of which were team highs. Gray averaged 58.73 rushing yards per game and 6.0 yards per carry. He also caught five passes for 28 yards and had one kickoff return for 12 yards for a total of 686 all-purpose yards.
Gray ranked No. 2 on the CAA leaderboard in yards per carry and eighth in rushing yards per game. He recorded his first 100-yard rushing game with seven carries for 123 yards – including a personal-best 81-yard run – in UNH's 27-24 win against the University of Rhode Island. Gray followed that with 99 rushing yards on 10 attempts vs. Duquesne University, and that included a 72-yard touchdown.
Gray scored a TD each of the last three games of the season, including a four-yard scamper in the finale that gave the 'Cats a 14-7 lead that would not be relinquished to Maine.

Smith, Jr. finished third on the team in total tackles with 64 (43 solo, 21 assisted). He also ranked second in both pass breakups (seven) and interceptions (three). Smith, Jr. helped secure UNH's 28-10 win against Maine with a 30-yard fumble return to give the Wildcats that 18-point lead with 1:36 remaining; he also force a fumble earlier in the game. His other season highlights included a career-high two interceptions at nationally-ranked Delaware and a personal-best 13 tackles (eight solo, five assisted) against URI. Smith, Jr. also had eight-tackle efforts against UAlbany, Stony Brook University and College of the Holy Cross.
Horn led New Hampshire in solo tackles (51), total tackles (70) and interceptions (four). His other stats included five pass breakups and seven tackles for loss, which included four sacks, as well as two forced fumbles and two fumbles recovered.
Horn recorded a career-high 11 tackles, including 10 solo stops and a personal-best two sacks, as well as a forced fumble in the season finale vs. Maine. He was named STATS National Defensive Player of the Week and CAA Defensive Player of the Week in recognition of those stats. Horn's other season highlights included two INTs in UNH's 28-20 win against nationally-ranked Villanova University and a 50-yard pick-6 vs. Elon University.

Hughes was the Wildcats' top scorer with 62 points on 14 field goals and 24 PAT kicks. He made 14 of 17 field goal attempts (82.4%), including 7-for-8 on attempts of 40+ yards, and the 14 FGs marked the highest total by a UNH team since 2015. Hughes hit a career long of 45 yards three times, including back-to-back games against Duquesne and Elon University. He connected on his last seven attempts of the season with five kicks of 42+ yards. Hughes' other season highlights included hitting the game-winning 29-yard field goal with no time remaining vs. URI.
Flynn started all 11 games at left tackle to anchor a Wildcats' offensive line that yielded just 19 sacks in 11 games t rank third in the CAA in fewest sacks allowed.
Kvietkus started all 11 games at defensive tackle and led all UNH linemen in total tackles with 45, including 24 solo stops. He led all Wildcats with 5.5 sacks and tied for second with 8.0 tackles for loss. Kvietkus' other stats included two fumble recoveries and one forced fumble. His season highlights included a career-high seven total tackles, including four solo, against Villanova, as well as a six-tackle effort at UAlbany that included 1.5 sacks.
