Overtime Goal Upends 'Cats, 2-1, at CCSU

NEW BRITAIN, Conn. – Senior Francesca Picicci (North Massapequa, N.Y.) scored a goal in the 82nd minute to tie the score, but the University of New Hampshire women's soccer team was upended 2-1 in overtime by Central Connecticut State University at CCSU Soccer Field on Sunday night.
UNH senior goalkeeper Cat Sheppard (Nesconset, N.Y.) was credited with four saves, as was CSSU counterpart Caitlin Murphy.
Roma McLaughlin scored the golden goal at 93:16 (3:16 into overtime). Erica Bardes had given the Blue Devils a 1-0 lead in the 12th minute.
UNH is now 1-2-0 overall, and CCSU improves to 2-1-0.

- Murphy preserved CCSU's 1-0 lead when she turned away a shot by sophomore Ella Dudley (St. Augustine, Fla.) in the 61st minute.
- Sheppard kept the 'Cats within one goal with a save against Kelly Brady in the 66th minute.
- UNH freshman Meghan Guarente (Sewell, N.J.) had her bid in the 70th minute stopped by Murphy.
- New Hampshire generated another scoring chance in the 73rd minute, and this time sophomore Alivia Kelly (Pembroke, Mass.) struck a shot wide of the cage.
- The Wildcats sustained pressure and Dudley's header was denied by Murphy.
- Picicci scored an unassisted goal – her first tally of the season – with 8:03 remaining in regulation to tied the score 1-1.
- UNH generated one more scoring chance in the second half, but sophomore Emily Bini (Guilderland, N.Y.) was turned aside by Murphy.
OVERTIME
- McLaughlin ended the game on the first shot of the extra session at 93:16.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS
- The shots were even, 9-9. CCSU had a 6-5 edge in shots on goal as well as a 3-1 advantage in corner kicks.
- CCSU has a 27-game home unbeaten streak.
UNH NOTEBOOK
- Both of UNH's losses have been on the road by one goal.
