DURHAM, N.H. – University of New Hampshire women's soccer alumnae Caroline Murray '16 recently signed a professional contract with AIK Football, which competes in the top division in Sweden and is one of the top women's soccer leagues in the world.
She has previously played professionally in Finland, Iceland and Sweden. She was also called into preseason camp for NJ Sky Blue of the National Women's Soccer League before COVID hit in spring 2020.
"Caroline continues to develop and excel as a highly respected professional player." UNH head coach Steve Welham said. "She has put in the necessary time and energy to make her dreams become her reality. Her upward trajectory as a player can be linked to her passion, grit and pragmatic approach to the game.
"It goes without saying how excited and proud everyone here at UNH is of her." Welham continued. "She is so easy to root for and support not just because she is a great player but because she has a wonderful head on her shoulders as well. We wish her all the best and we are behind her every step of the way!"
Murray recorded a goal and eight assists as a senior in the 2015 season, when she garnered multiple accolades, including America East Midfielder of the Year, NSCAA Scholar All-East Region Third Team, NSCAA All-Region Third Team, and NEWISA Division I All-New England First Team.
She was also selected to the America East All-Conference First Team and All-Academic Team. Murray led the conference in assists and her 10 points ranked second on the team.
In her first year as a Wildcat, Murray recorded two goals and five assists as UNH won the America East tournament title. She was selected to the NSCAA All-East Academic Third Team, NEWISA All-New England Second Team, America East All-Conference Second Team and AE All-Championship Team.
Murray tallied three goals and 13 assists for 19 points in 40 games (all starts) at UNH.
After completing her studies, Murray signed with the Finnish team Sudet Jalkapallo and arrived in Kouvola in March 2016. She recorded 12 goals and six assists in starting all 22 games, and Murray was named Man of the Match 11 times.
In 2017, Murray signed with Icelandic FH, where she played all 18 league games and scored three goals. After Iceland, she signed an agreement with Västerås BK 30. After missing one season because of injury, Murray was back again with Västerås BK 30 in 2019, played all 22 games and tied for sixth in the league with 15 goals.
