If you mention Roll to the Goal to any University of New Hampshire men's soccer player, one definite reaction will be a smile. Since 2017, the Wildcats have teamed up with the Northeast Passage Wildcats Power Soccer Program to help promote, support and fundraise for the talented team at NEP.
This year, the fourth annual Roll to the Goal was to be held on April 18, but unfortunately had to be cancelled due to the COVID-19 epidemic. However, despite the cancellation, NEP and the men' soccer team have still been able to celebrate their relationship, as well as reminisce on past experiences together, as they look forward to future time together.

Northeast Passage is a non-profit organization whose goal is providing a barrier-free world for individuals with disabilities. Although this year's event cannot take place, NEP was still able to receive a $5,000 donation for the program. NEP Program Director Bill Stewart is grateful for the relationship that has flourished between these two teams, and what they have been able to do together and for one another.

"NEP and our power soccer program are thrilled to have forged such an excellent relationship with the UNH men's soccer team. Their support for our program with their time, their appreciation for what our athletes accomplish and their dedication to seeing our program thrive is applauded and appreciated by all of us here at Northeast Passage and the athletes we assist! We can't thank them enough for all they do!"
Although the event cannot be held this year, everyone involved still knows the value it has for both the NEP Wildcats and the men's soccer team, including UNH junior All-American Josh Bauer (Bedford, N.H.).
"Roll to the Goal has such a positive impact on everyone in the community. It's a great bridge from standard soccer to power soccer. It's awesome to get the power soccer athletes some prime time exposure and celebrate their talents. Our program is so fortunate to work with NE Passage, and for me personally, power soccer opened another door to the game we all love."

Lucas Currier, who is a member of both the NEP power soccer team and the UNH men's soccer team, notes how the event is not only fun, but a valuable learning experience as well.
"My favorite part about Roll to the Goal is being able to show my skills with my team to the soccer players and show the crowd that power soccer is really a true sport and we are athletes too. The event also shows the relationship between the two teams. This is very important for everyone to see because even though we may be different in our ways and how we play the game we still support each other and go to each other's games. Lastly, it is just a funny and comical night with everyone laughing and having smiles on their faces."

UNH men's soccer player junior Jacob Gould (Exeter, N.H.) notes that being able to support a fellow teammate during this event is something special.
"Being involved in Roll to the Goal means a lot to me. Lucas is part of our Wildcat family and having the opportunity to support him, just as he supports us each day, is something I'm really grateful for."
Head coach Marc Hubbard sees just how important this event is to everyone who takes part, and not just in athletic terms.

"Giving back provides a bigger purpose and meaning for our team than just playing soccer. We are very fortunate to have the connection with Northeast Passage and Lucas Currier because this relationship provides a greater perspective on the important things in life and allows our student-athletes to develop as better human beings along their journey at UNH."
With an emphasis on soccer and the community, the impact that this event holds for both teams involved lasts much longer than the day it is held, and although it will be missed this year, the event will be greatly anticipated next year.
