Wildcats Win 3-2 Thriller Versus LIU Brooklyn

DURHAM, N.H. - Freshman Chris Pinkham (Concord, N.H.) broke a 2-2 tie when he scored the game-winning goal with just 12:34 remaining in the second half as the University of New Hampshire men's soccer team defeated LIU Brooklyn, 3-2, at Wildcat Stadium. The Wildcats advance to 2-1-0, while the Blackbirds fall to 1-1-1.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
- The Wildcats struck first in the second minute (1:24), when a deflected ball off a LIU defender landed at the feet of junior Antonio Colacci (Bradenton, Fla.), who then fired a shot from 18 yards out into the top left corner of the net past LIU goalkeeper Anthony Sciola.
- Then, freshman Jacob Gould (Exeter, N.H.) sent a pass to junior Donnett Sackie (Monrovia, Liberia) in the 12th minute who then headed the ball from 10 yards out but was saved by Sciola.
- LIU tied the game when Filip Nordstrom passed the ball to Christoffer Solbakken who blasted a one timer to the right side of the net in the 23rd minute (22:18).
- The Wildcats almost took the lead when sophomore Jonny Wolf (Hopkinton, Mass.), hit a bicycle kick to the wide left of the net in the 39th minute.
- In 52nd the minute (51:55), senior Alex Valencia (Tracy, Calif.) left the ball at the 18-yard line for sophomore Linus Fallberg (Jonkoping, Sweden) who then buried the ball into the lower right corner of the net giving the Wildcats the 2-1 lead.
- Shortly after the Wildcats took the lead, the Blackbirds tied the game at 2-2 in the 54th minute (53:45) when Giuseppe Barone stole the ball and sent a pass to Anthony Baltzar who capitalized for LIU.
- In the 65th minute, Fallberg maneuvered through defenders and went on a breakaway, but his shot was saved by Sciola.
- The Wildcats took the 3-2 lead in the 78th minute (77:26), when senior Chris Arling (Windham, N.H.) took a shot that was deflected by a defender, and then Pinkham secured the rebound and placed the ball in the back of the net.
- With just eight seconds remaining in the game, Xavi Verdu attempted to score the equalizer but graduate student Lars Huxsohl (Hamburg, Germany) secured the Wildcats win with the save.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS:
- Huxsohl made one save, while Sciola posted three.
- UNH had six shots on goal and LIU tallied three.
- UNH had four corner kicks, while LIU had one.
BEYOND THE BOXSCORE:
- Colacci scored his first goal of the season and the second of his career. He leads the team with three points, on one goal and one assist.
- Fallberg scored his first goal of the season and the fourth of his career.
- Pinkham netted his first career goal.
- The Wildcats are 2-0-0 this season at home and are 12-0-3 at Wildcat Stadium over the last 15 games. UNH has outscored its opponents at home by a 28-7 margin over this span. Last year, UNH went 10-0-3 at Wildcat Stadium. UNH was just one of nine teams out of 205 to go undefeated at home.
