Sennott Records Two Goals, Assist in 17-7 Loss at Hofstra

HEMPSTEAD, N.Y. – Rebecca Sennott (Westford, Mass.) recorded two goals and an assist but the University of New Hampshire women's lacrosse team was defeated 17-7 by Hofstra University at James M. Shuart Stadium on Thursday night.
The two goals and three assists matched personal bests for Sennott, as did her six draw controls. Elizabeth Blanding (Pittsford, N.Y.) and Catherine Sexton (Niskayuna, N.Y.) both finished with a goal and an assist.
Starting goalie Kate Clancy (Barrington, R.I.) recorded 10 saves and exited the game with UNH trailing 15-6 with 10:00 remaining. Amanda Gottlieb (Canton, Conn.) was credited with one save and surrendered two goals.
Hofstra was led offensively by Alyssa Parrella (6g, 3a) and Katie Whelan (5g). Maddie Fields made 10 saves.
UNH is now 3-6 while Hofstra improves to 6-4.

THE DIFFERENCE
- Leading 6-3 at halftime, Hofstra scored the initial three goals of the second half as part of a 5-1 run that extended the advantage to seven goals.
- UNH scored goals 19 seconds apart to quickly trim the deficit to 11-6, but Hofstra responded with tallies 24 seconds apart to ignite a 5-0 run that pushed the margin to double digits, 16-6.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Hofstra scored goals 45 seconds apart – Jenna Budd on a free position at 25:18 and Parrella unassisted at 24:33 – to quickly build a 2-0 lead.
- Carlee Ancona finished a feed from Mary Kate Gerety to extend the advantage to 3-0 at 21:55.
- New Hampshire called time out and trimmed the deficit to 3-1 at 20:13. On a free position at the right wing, Blanding circled behind the net and found Sexton cutting toward goal for the score.
- Parrella and Whelan netted free-position goals 30 seconds apart to give the Pride a 5-1 lead at 13:24.
- The Wildcats once again trimmed the deficit to two goals, 5-3. Sennott found Blanding in front for a tally at 13:24 and, on a free positon from the top of the fan, Sennott scored on a bounce shot at 10:29.
- Drew Shapiro made it 6-3 at 6:41 and that was the score heading into halftime.
- Parrella opened the second-half scoring at 28:47 and Whelan scored back-to-back goals at 26:58 and 24:53 to give the home team a 9-3 lead.
- Teagan Northrup (Longmeadow, Mass.) helped trim the deficit to 9-4 at 24:15 when she rolled behind the net to the left side and found Krissy Schafer (Longmeadow, Mass.) in front for the goal.
- Alexa Mattera netted goals at 26:58 and 24:53 to give Hofstra an 11-4 lead.
- Sennott dodged defenders on the right wing to get to the top of the crease and score her second goal of the game at 17:04. Carly Wooters (White Plains, N.Y.) converted a free position into a goal and 11-6 score at 16:45.
- Hofstra quickly responded with goals by Budd and Parrella at 15:43 and 15:19, respectively. Those tallies ignited a 5-0 run that pushed the advantage to double digits, 16-6, at 9:12.
- Michele Smith (Wantagh, N.Y.) potted UNH's last goal at 6:24 and the Pride's Whelan closed the scoring at 5:37.
UNH NOTEBOOK
- Schafer extended her goal and point streaks to seven games; she has 17 points, all on goals, during the streak.
- Wooters extended her goal and point streaks to six games; she has 12 goals and four assists for 16 points in that time.
- Smith has scored a goal in three consecutive games and in 5 of 6.
- Sexton has a goal in four consecutive games (4g, 2a).
INSIDE THE NUMBERS
- Hofstra recorded a 37-22 shot advantage that included 24-12 in the second half.
- The Pride also tallied the advantage in ground balls (21-14) and draw controls (15-11). Turnovers were even at 13.
- This marked just the second time in nine games the opponent finished with the edge in ground balls.
