‘Cats head to the quarterfinals on Thursday.
DURHAM, N.H. – The University of New Hampshire women's soccer team faced off with the Hartford Hawks on Sunday afternoon.
The Wildcats found themselves down by two goals at halftime, and despite late chances in the second, couldn't find the back of the net. Very high wind gusts throughout the game effected goal kicks and set pieces both positively and negatively for both teams.
New Hampshire will move on to the America East playoffs as the #6 seed, facing the University at Albany, seeded #3 in the tournament.
GAME INFORMATION:
Date: October 21, 2018 - 2 P.M.

Attendance: 201
Score: Hartford 2 (13-2-2, 6-1-1 AE) UNH 0 (7-8-2, 3-4-1 AE)
HOW IT HAPPENED:
- New Hampshire opened the game up strong; junior Ally Reynolds (Weymouth, Mass.) dribbled into the wind and fired a shot on net, but it was saved by Hartford's Maia Perez.
- Minutes later, Liz Lane (Porter, Maine) decided to test the wind herself, and fired a good shot past Perez but the wind took just enough of it to keep it out of the goulmouth, and it went wide.
- Hartford had a chance down the sideline in the 16th minute, and a cross into the box found a waiting Kaila Lozada who shot it straight up and into the net.
- A turnover just at the edge of the 18 in the 36th minute gave Hartford's Ashley Claud an opportunity to dribble in and fire in a shot to give the Hawks a 2-0 advantage.
- In the second half, running with the wind, the Wildcats tried to find their advantage. In the 70th minute, Casey Peterson (Clifton, Va.) got a turnover and dribbled into the 18. Her shot was almost high enough to beat Perez, but she got enough of her fingertips on it to send it over the crossbar.
- The Wildcats had back-to-back corner kicks in the 80th minute, but Hartford was able to clog the goalmouth and prevent a good scoring chance.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS:
- There were only nine fouls in the contest; Hartford was whistled for eight, UNH for one.
- Hartford had eight corner kicks to UNH's five.
- Mia Neas (Old Saybrook, Conn.) made five saves in her 80 minutes of play.
- Hartford led in total shots, 11-8.
