Undefeated Wildcats Defeat #22 Boston College, 2-0

NEWTON, Mass. – Andrew Pesci (Windham, N.H.) recorded his third straight shutout as the University of New Hampshire men's soccer team defeated No. 22 Boston College, 2-0, on Friday afternoon at the Newton Campus Soccer Field. With the win, the Wildcats improve to 3-0-0 on the season and have not allowed a goal through their first three games. Boston College entered the game after scoring eight goals through its first two games but the Wildcats kept the Eagles off the scoreboard for the first time this year. This is the Wildcats' first win over BC in 29 years.

- "Our team worked very hard defensively to deny BC as many scoring chances as possible," said UNH head coach Marc Hubbard. "BC had two 4-0 wins so we knew this was going to be a challenge. We really pressed well and covered for each other. I am very proud of our team."
HOW IT HAPPENED:
- In the 19th minute, UNH took the first shot on goal of the game when sophomore Antonio Colacci (Bradenton, Fla.) fired a free kick from 25 yards out that was saved by Antonio Chavez Borrelli.
- The Wildcats took a 1-0 lead in the 30th minute (29:10) when junior Alex Valencia (Tracy, Calif.) sent in a free kick to graduate student Willis Griffith (Amherst, N.H.) as the ball then deflected off the shoulder of a BC defender and went to the back of the net.
- In the 48th minute, the Eagles had a scoring opportunity but Pesci made a big save off a shot by Callum Johnson.
- In the 88th minute, freshman Linus Fallberg (Jonkoping, Sweden) put the game away when he found the back of net off a pass by junior Kristian Piippo (Honefoss, Norway).
- Pesci was outstanding in net as he made four second-half saves, which included three over the last 13:00 of the contest.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS:
- Pesci posted the shutout with four saves, while Borrelli made two saves for the Eagles.
- Each team took four shots on goal.
BEYOND THE BOXSCORE:
- This is the second straight season the Wildcats have defeated a nationally ranked team as UNH posted a 2-1 win over No. 14 UMass Lowell on Oct. 23, 2016.
- The last time UNH defeated BC was a 3-1 victory on Sept. 24, 1988.
- The Wildcats have not allowed a goal in the first three games of the season, including 1-0 wins over Colgate and Northeastern.
- Pesci posted his third straight shutout to start the season and it is his 10th of his career.
- Fallberg now has two goals this season.
